AisleBuyer Releases First Data on Mobile Self-Checkout

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - January 10, 2011) - AisleBuyer LLC, the innovator of mobile checkout solutions, announced today that it has compiled data from its first customer launch. Following the launch of AisleBuyer's mobile self-checkout application for iPhone and Android with retail partner Magic Beans, the company has found an overwhelming consumer demand for the ability to checkout securely and easily from a mobile device.

The data analyzed in "Mobile Self-Checkout During the 2010 Holiday Shopping Season" was gathered during the peak holiday shopping period, spanning from November 26th, 2010 ("Black Friday") to December 19th, 2010.

Notable findings from the study include:

  • More than 15% of smartphone-toting customers chose mobile self-checkout in lieu of the traditional cash register
  • During Black Friday weekend alone, more than 42% of smartphone users chose mobile self-checkout instead of using the traditional cash register -- a number that represented 12% of all transactions
  • 60% of all customers who used the application to scan a product ultimately made a purchase

Also during the study, AisleBuyer found evidence that its application positively influenced consumer spending. In total, customers using the application made purchases averaging 8% more than those of their traditional shopping counterparts, showing how mobile self-checkout technology is beneficial to retailers of all sizes and types.
