ShopStyle Finds Top Early Holiday Online Shopping Trends and Roundup of Cyber Monday Fashion Deals

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 26, 2013) - With holiday shopping season upon us, POPSUGAR's ShopStyle, the leading fashion search engine, rounded up Cyber Monday fashion deals and has identified some early trends in the 2013 holiday shopping season.

ShopStyle analyzed site data from the first two weeks of November and conducted a survey of its users. Its findings include:

1. "Trick or Treating" takes on a whole new meaning.

  • This year, the holiday shopping season started as early as Halloween. According to Melissa Davis, General Manager of ShopStyle, "The competition for share of consumer holiday spending has never been more intense. To respond to mounting pressure, retailers are kicking off the holiday shopping period earlier than ever with a growing number of retailers offering deals on or before Thanksgiving Day and well ahead of Black Friday. Consumers are responding, beginning their holiday shopping process earlier as well. We've already seen an increased amount of shopping on the first two weeks of November compared to the same time last year."
  • According to's 2013 Holiday Shopping survey, 42% of women indicated that they begin their holiday shopping prior to or around Halloween, as compared to 34% of women who begin their holiday gift shopping on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

2. Not surprisingly, the ubiquity and convenience of shopping on mobile and tablet devices is helping to significantly drive this trend.

  • Over the first two weeks of November, unique visitors to via a smart phone have grown 60% and tablet visitors have grown 32% this year as compared to the same two-week period in 2012
  • According to the 2013 Holiday Shopping report, 34% of women use a smart phone and 30% use a tablet to shop for their holiday gifts. visitor data also confirms this trend.

3. Retailers are offering discounts earlier in the shopping season.

  • In both 2013 and 2012, the majority of visitors in the first two weeks of November who clicked to purchase items chose full price items. However, this year has seen a 20% year over year increase in shoppers who have clicked to purchase discounted items (43.6% in 2013 vs. 36.2% in 2012).

4. Black is the new black. Despite the bright colors on the runways this year, black (19%) was still the most popular color for women's clothing with's shoppers in November. The next most popular colors were white (12%), followed by red (9%) and blue (9%).
