Shore Bancshares, Inc. Banks on Silver Peak Systems for WAN Optimization

NX Appliances Increase Replication Throughput, Optimize Real-Time Traffic

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - March 9, 2010) - Silver Peak Systems, the leader in data center class Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization, today announced that Shore Bancshares, Inc. ("Shore"), a leading financial holding company based in Maryland, has selected Silver Peak's NX appliances to optimize application performance across the company's MPLS WAN. After evaluating several WAN optimization solutions, Shore chose Silver Peak as a key enabler for several of the company's strategic IT initiatives, from offsite data replication to the company's emerging virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI)

Silver Peak partnered with Systems Alliance, Inc. to meet Shore's WAN optimization requirements.

"Silver Peak's NX appliances have given us the ability to dramatically reduce the bandwidth required to meet our RTO goals for data replication and backups," said Michael Nickerson, systems engineer at Shore Bancshares, Inc. "In particular, we have seen upwards of 80% reduction in WAN traffic for our Equallogic SAN replication, which has created a noticeable improvement in replication throughout and enabled the company to save a significant amount of money in ongoing telco expenditures."

After deploying Silver Peak NX appliances in the company's data centers, Shore made a strategic decision to expand WAN optimization into the company's remote locations.

Nickerson adds, "With Silver Peak's unique total-IP optimization solution, we optimize all traffic to our branch locations. This includes file sharing and Exchange, as well as real-time applications like voice and VDI that are notoriously difficult to deliver across a WAN. Silver Peak, together with Systems Alliance, provided Shore Bancshares with a winning formula that fits perfectly with our data center and branch office needs."

Silver Peak employs real-time network optimization techniques to maximize application performance across the WAN while minimizing IT operational costs. These techniques include:

Silver Peak's award winning NX appliances scale from Mbps to Gbps of WAN capacity. They are designed to optimize all IP traffic, regardless of transport protocol and application software version. By delivering the highest capacity appliances that benefit the widest range of applications, Silver Peak is the most cost effective WAN optimization solution for large enterprise networks.
