"Should Government Really Expect the Ordinary Man in the Street to Turn our Economy Around?" Asks Jesse Young CEO of Per DM Group

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 12, 2010) - Jesse Young of Per DM considers Prime Minister David Cameron's announcement this week, at the Conservative Party Conference. David Cameron's declaration, "Your country needs you!" suggests that the nation needs to pull together and work in the best interests of the country to turn the British economy around. He went on to reassure the nation by saying "We will do our bit".

It is all very good saying this, however when the people of a the UK are staring at an unprecedented period of austerity combined with continuing rising food prices and general inflation it is difficult to see where the appetite for this will come from.

"The UK population has always been very resilient and over the decades risen to a crisis when required" says Jesse Young CEO of Per DM one of the UK's premier outsource sales groups. "However when the government holds all the cards and haven't yet announced where the swinging cuts are going to fall, it's a big ask for the people".

The PM's speech was reminiscent of John F Kennedy's inauguration speech in 1960. "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country?" Clearly he sees the parallels. A new government. A country divided. A country in transition. Cameron wishes us to be "defined by what we give, not what we take". "It's about government helping to build a nation of doers and go-getters, where people step forward, not sit back" he stated.

In order for that to happen we need a population motivated and secure in the knowledge that their sacrifices will ultimately bring reward. "Society has changed in a very short time" says Jesse Young. "We know that the old order has gone forever and that the concept of 'Big Society' is where the coalition sees things. However it is in the private sector that the government see redemption, not in the public sector".

Companies like Per DM are in the vanguard of creating a nation of "doers and go-getters". "We are constantly looking for candidates who through mentoring and training become skilled, highly motivated operators" said Jesse. "The ordinary guy in the street needs to see that businesses can deliver on their promises. Equally business needs to trust that government will deliver on theirs!"
