SHOWperfect Selects DarbeeVision Technology for Digital Image Enhancement

New High Speed Film Scanning System Will Feature Unparalleled Image Quality and Realism

ANAHEIM, CA--(Marketwire - October 5, 2010) -  DarbeeVision, Inc., a pioneer in the field of digital image enhancement, today announced that it has signed an agreement with SHOWperfect, a maker of custom projection systems. Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will work together to develop and market a SHOWperfect film scanning product that integrates Darbee Visual Presence Technology.

"Partnering with SHOWperfect for a new solution for film scanning will address a major dilemma currently being faced by the legacy film market," noted Paul Darbee, DarbeeVision's founder and CEO. "The SHOWperfect Phoenix Film Scanner already makes it possible to transfer film at its core spatial resolution and dynamic range. By integrating Darbee Visual Presence Technology into the scanner, we enhance the scanned legacy data on the back end, and are now able to produce end-result images that achieve a level of quality that is far beyond what was possible before."

Darbee Visual Presence Technology will be integrated into SHOWperfect's Phoenix Film Scanner, a machine designed to provide a high quality, high through-put, low cost archival solution. The Phoenix Film Scanner is small enough to be transported to any archival facility and fast enough to tackle any size job, converting at speeds up to real time and creating files that contain all of the film picture information. With the ability to capture full film resolution and dynamic range at 24 frames per second, the Phoenix Film Scanner produces an output of 4K, or four times the file size of an HD frame.

DarbeeVision's proprietary technology takes pictures beyond what even the most perfect camera and display systems can produce. Taking into account what the human visual system does when images are viewed is the key to achieving the best images possible. By using computers to process an image in the same way a human brain does and then adding these results back into the original image, pictures take on new properties that are both unexpected and visually gratifying.

Darbee processing happens in real-time, with performance surpassing HD 1080p/60, and integrates easily into the video processing pipeline. It does not require a full frame buffer, runs at pixel-clock rates and utilizes all-integer arithmetic. The processing is local, modifying the image luminance on a per-pixel basis with no effect on grain, noise or pre-existing sharpening. Going beyond the limitations of optics and electronics and taking into account what the human visual system does when images are viewed, achieves an extraordinary sense of realism and depth.

Founded by a team of pioneers in the field of electronic projection systems design and development, SHOWperfect leads the way for film scanning. In fact, SHOWperfect president and CEO Charles W. Fox's designs are used by Showscan, SimEX, Universal's Spiderman attraction, and other special-venue applications. These installations comprise more than 200 units around the world.
