SHRM Hawaii Member Wins HR Fellowship for Graduate Study

$10,000 Award Given to Master's Degree Student in Human Resources

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Nov 21, 2014) - Mandy R. Woulfe is the winner of the 2014 Susan R. Meisinger Fellowship, an annual award given to a human resources professional who demonstrates exemplary leadership.

The award, a $10,000 fellowship for first-time master's degree students, was presented today at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) annual Volunteer Leaders' Summit in Washington, D.C. More than 850 HR professionals from across the country are attending the event.

"Mandy has exhibited substantial past commitment, growth and leadership in the HR profession," said Mark Schmit, executive director of the SHRM Foundation. "We believe that with her master's degree, she will be even better equipped to take the lead and innovate in the future."

Woulfe, who resides in Lahaina, Hawaii, is a volunteer leader for the SHRM Hawaii state chapter. She works in corporate human resources at Classic Resorts in Lahaina and has more than 10 years of human resources experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in human resource management from Regis University in Denver.

Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Science in human resource management with a concentration in integrating functional and strategic human resource management through Walden University in Minneapolis.

With the knowledge gained from her master's degree, Woulfe hopes to make a difference in the human resources profession by implementing HR strategies that align with businesses' financial objectives and validate HR's role in helping companies meet those objectives.

"For me, HR is more than a job; it's a calling," Woulfe wrote in her fellowship application. "It is an opportunity to impact people's lives and the companies they work for by improving their work environment, advancement opportunities and finances."

The fellowship was established in 2009 to help develop the next generation of HR leaders. To be eligible, an HR professional either must be a member of SHRM or hold a professional certification.
