Siemens Networks Selects Infoblox as Its Preferred DNS Partner

Companies Work Together to Ensure Highly Reliable and Secure DNS Services for Mobile and Fixed Network Operators

MUNICH, GERMANY and SANTA CLARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 23, 2007 -- Infoblox Inc., a developer of essential infrastructure for identity-driven networks (IDNs), and Siemens Networks (NYSE: SI) today announced that Siemens has standardized on Infoblox appliances to provide mobile and fixed network operators domain name resolution (DNS) services, which resolve domain names such as www.siemens.com into IP addresses.

Many telecommunications networks are now linked to the Internet. For instance, the connections to service partners that provide mobile applications, as well as complete voice networks of enterprise customers, run over the Internet. In the case of the wireless standard GPRS, the data interface to enable roaming with foreign carriers is also IP-based and requires highly reliable and secure DNS services for non-stop, utility-like network operation.

Further, carriers' websites can be vulnerable to unauthorized intrusion. For example, users can access their own phone bills online -- something that harbors the risk of third parties penetrating user accounts and misusing data.

Infoblox and Siemens have integrated and certified Infoblox appliances with Siemens' market-leading mobile core networking solutions, including UMTS and GPRS wireless and Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure for telephone carrier and Internet service providers. Infoblox's purpose-built appliances with a hardened operating system and built-in high-availability capabilities offer unparalleled reliability and optimum protection from intrusion.

Thorsten Schneider, head of the Security Business at Siemens Carrier Service, says in this regard: "One of the reasons why we have chosen the DNS appliances from Infoblox is because they have a hardened operating system and secure platform. Siemens has already sold Infoblox appliances to more than 40 mobile carriers in almost 30 countries. Our customers include large and small carriers. If customers wish, we will even operate the entire security infrastructure of a network under a managed services agreement. In that way, they obtain optimum standards of security with our experienced experts, without the need to provide and pay for staff of their own."

Infoblox appliances offer Siemens and its customers a reliable, scalable and easily managed alternative to conventional DNS and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) solutions, which are typically based on software running on servers with standard operating systems. Conventional systems are difficult to deploy and manage, expensive to patch and maintain, and do not provide the level of service integration or real-time performance and resiliency necessary to support new security initiatives, pervasive mobile networking, convergence applications like VoIP, or compliance reporting requirements.

In addition to the reliability, security, scalability and maintenance advantages of the Infoblox appliance approach, Infoblox grid technology extends management capabilities by unifying a collection of Infoblox appliances into a seamless grid that provides unprecedented performance and scalability, as well as system-wide management and availability. They continue to deliver service in the face of link or unit failures and support sophisticated backup and disaster recovery features.

Siemens and Infoblox have completed integration work to allow Infoblox appliance monitoring and central solution management through the Siemens' NMS Switch Commander (NMS) application, which is used to manage most Siemens' mobile core solutions.

The Infoblox appliances bundled with the Siemens mobile core networking solutions are available through local Siemens companies worldwide and Siemens will be responsible for integrating and maintaining Infoblox technology.
