Sierra Monitor Corporation Receives UL 2017 Approval for Sentry IT Fire and Gas Controller

Approval Reduces Customer Risk for Alternative Fuel Vehicle and Other Critical Safety Applications

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwired - June 15, 2015) - Sierra Monitor Corporation (OTCQB: SRMC), provider of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions that connect and protect high-value infrastructure assets, today announced that its Sentry IT Controller product has received UL 2017 safety location approval. The company had previously received UL 2075 performance based approvals for its Catalytic Bead and Infrared (IR) based Combustible Gas sensor modules, making Sierra Monitor the only company to have a comprehensive UL approved solution consisting of a controller and sensors for industrial-grade applications such as Alternative Fuel Maintenance or Refueling that involve the presence of explosive gases.

UL 2017 encompasses safety requirements for signaling devices intended for emergency or nonemergency use, used in indoor and/or outdoor locations, and where applicable, installed and used in accordance with the National Electric Code, NFPA 70. Emergency-signaling products covered by these requirements are associated with property and/or life safety and are of a non-fire/non-security alarm nature. These products are evaluated with regard to product safety and to appropriateness of signaling. The Sentry IT Controller has been approved as a Type Self-Monitored (SM) device, intended for, but not restricted to commercial use. The product meets the "Standard for Safety - ANSI/UL 2017 General Purpose Signaling Devices and Systems, Second Edition dated December 23, 2008 including revisions through May 4, 2011".

Previously, Sierra Monitor's Combustible Gas sensors have received the UL2075 performance approval. The UL 2075 approvals encompass the standards outlined in ANSI/ISA 12.13.01-2003 - Performance Requirements for Combustible Gas Detectors -- and meet the requirements of International Fire Code (IFC) 2012, Section 2311.7, a code used by safety conscious customers for applications such as "Repair facilities for Lighter than Air Fueled Vehicles".

"Sierra Monitor is the only company in our industry with a combination of UL 2017 and UL 2075 approvals for industrial environments that require technologies such as IR sensors and explosion proof enclosures," said Anders Axelsson, VP of Sales and Marketing of Sierra Monitor Corporation. "Customers are realizing that the inspection and approval process by the Local Authority Having Jurisdiction (LAHJ) is greatly simplified and commissioning time is reduced when the installed solution carries these approvals. Additionally, customers who use certified or approved products reduce their liability and often receive favored insurance rates."

Mark Butler, Project Manager for Alternate Fuels for the City of Los Angeles, said, "Fueling and maintenance buildings for natural gas vehicles must comply with ever-changing codes. Conforming to codes increases worker and plant safety, and LAHJs are rightly insisting on conformance. I appreciate Sierra Monitor's commitment to providing comprehensive solutions for fueling and maintenance that carry the required approvals and certifications."

The UL 2017 and UL 2075 range of products for Alternative Fuel and other demanding applications involving combustible gases is available for sale immediately from Sierra Monitor Corporation ( and authorized partners. The products carrying these approvals are being exhibited in Booth 210 at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Conference and Exposition being held at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL from June 22nd to June 24th, 2015.
