Sigma Systems Launches Residential Triple-Play Service Fulfillment Platform for Telcos

Telco Services Accelerator Simplifies Provisioning and Activation of Residential Service Bundles Over Fiber, Including IPTV and SIP-Based VoIP

MILAN, ITALY--(Marketwire - February 8, 2011) - FTTH Europe Conference 2011 -- Sigma Systems, an industry leader in Advanced IP Service Fulfillment solutions, today introduced its new Telco Services Accelerator, a residential service fulfillment solution that enables telcos to capitalize on the growth of triple-play services over fiber. This next-generation OSS platform enables telcos to create service bundles and seamlessly provision, activate and manage residential Internet, SIP-based VoIP and IPTV services over a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network.

The ability to deliver triple-play service bundles over fiber networks is a critical next step for telcos looking to fend off competition from cable multiple system operators (MSOs), reduce customer churn and increase customer satisfaction. A next-gen OSS solution, Sigma Systems' Telco Services Accelerator is a SOA-based service fulfillment platform. Telco Services Accelerator enables telcos to create FTTH service bundles and manage all aspects of service fulfillment, including order management; network, service and device provisioning; and service activation, all from a single platform.

"Telcos clearly realize that in order to deliver advanced IPTV, ultra-fast broadband and feature-rich SIP-based VoIP services, a fiber network is optimal. However, many telcos still treat each service as separate and siloed, making it a challenge to manage a holistic view of each subscriber," said Brian Cappellani, chief technology officer and vice president of Engineering of Sigma Systems. "As telcos evaluate their triple-play strategy, they need to determine best approaches for provisioning and managing triple-play service bundles to gain the comprehensive view of every subscriber. The holistic design of Sigma Systems' Telco Services Accelerator does just that and allows telcos to provision fiber and handle all services seamlessly, making it far easier, faster and less expensive to implement and manage multiple services."

Telcos receive a number of benefits from Sigma Systems' Telco Service Accelerator's holistic design, including:

  • Ability to offer residential subscribers improved services, including full fiber-based IPTV, faster broadband and feature-rich VoIP
  • Operational cost savings via full automation of order management, provisioning and activation
  • Capability to provision FTTH equipment
  • Faster go-to-market ability, allowing telcos to rollout multiple services from day one versus in slow phases which can take up to 18-24 months
  • Support for mobile and business VoIP services
  • Support for SIP-based devices and IPv6 migration
  • Compliance with TM Forum certification for Order Management API and Web Services in a next-generation OSS (NGOSS) framework. The OSS/J order management API -- called Information Framework JSR-264 -- enables faster time to market through full interoperability with certified BSS and CRM vendors.

"Fiber to the home is rapidly becoming the technology of choice for telcos around the globe," said Alan Breznick, senior analyst at Heavy Reading. "With this new network infrastructure, there is a whole new series of challenges and complexities when telcos deploy services, especially service bundles. Sigma Systems is seeking to eliminate many of these challenges and complexities associated with FTTH networks and help telcos deploy service bundles both more efficiently and quicker."

Any Network, Any Device
The Telco Services Accelerator is a neutral OSS solution that enables service delivery on any network, any access technology and to any device. From a single platform, telcos can provision OLTs and configure related ports for multi-service access by consumers. Sigma Systems' platform also manages the subscriber connection, sets up voice and data lines, configures all services and establishes ONT parameters to communicate back into the network.

Fully integrated with Sigma Systems' Device Provisioning Manager, the Telco Services Accelerator also allows telcos to efficiently provision customer premises equipment, including ONTs, IADs, home IP gateways, SIP devices and set-top boxes.

While designed for next-generation IP networks, Sigma Systems' Telco Services Accelerator can provide OSS support for services delivered over mixed networks.

Bell Aliant's All-Fiber Network
Sigma Systems' Telco Services Accelerator is currently deployed at Bell Aliant, which is the only telco in North America with a full fiber network, called FibreOp. Bell Aliant expects to pass 600,000 homes by 2012.
