SIGMA3 Announces Dr. Alan J. Cohen as Chief Technology Officer

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - July 08, 2014) - Sigma Cubed Inc. (SIGMA3) announces the appointment of Dr. Alan J. Cohen as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Reservoir Characterization Center of Excellence (COE) leader. With an emphasis on unconventional reservoirs, Cohen brings more than 37 years of multi-disciplinary reservoir characterization, interpretation and seismic processing experience to his new role. An oil company veteran with significant accomplishments in the Exploration & Production technology and services segment and an expert in rock physics, he will lead the development strategy for the company's integrated GeoEngineering™ solutions and workflows.

Experienced in global oil & gas exploration, development and production, Cohen will be responsible for the continued evolution and integration of reservoir-centric geoscience and engineering technologies across all lines of business, including geoscience, engineering, microseismic, processing and interpretation, and software. As Reservoir Characterization leader, he will spearhead the consolidation of the company's reservoir geophysics and reservoir characterization technologies, which together contribute to Shale Capacity™ models that help clients pinpoint the sweet spots that will yield maximum IP and EUR. In collaboration with Microseismic and Engineering COE leaders, Cohen and his team will deliver the best science leadership, workflows, technology and expertise to help clients make better decisions. Cohen succeeds the current CTO, Dr. Alan Huffman, who will step down at the end of July and will continue his involvement with SIGMA3 in an advisory capacity.

During his 28-year tenure with Royal Dutch Shell/Shell Oil, Cohen held multiple leadership roles related to geoscience, petrophysics and operations, including Manager of Reservoir Technologies Services and Chief Geophysicist - Western Hemisphere. Cohen most recently held dual roles as Director of Quantitative Interpretation R&D at ION Innovation and Global Director of Reservoir Services at ION-GX Technology. Prior to joining ION, he was Chief Geophysicist & Vice President of Processing and Interpretation at Rock Solid Images.

Cohen holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from Harvard University and a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from McGill University. He is a member of SEG, serves on the SEG Development & Production Committee, and has served as an Adjunct Professor, Geology, at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
