The Signature at Las Vegas MGM Grand Gets 'Up to Speed' With Cymphonix Network Composer

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - June 17, 2009) - Cymphonix® today announced that NxTV, the leading provider of digital in-room entertainment, voice and data services to the international luxury hotel market, has deployed Cymphonix Network Composer® to help manage bandwidth performance at The Signature at Las Vegas MGM Grand hotel.

NxTV supports many of the most prestigious hospitality brands worldwide, such as Four Seasons, Peninsula, W Hotels, St. Regis, Le Meridien, Omni, Raffles, JW Marriott, Harrah's and Kerzner International. At The Signature, NxTV is responsible for creating a flawless multi-media experience and providing hotel guests with 24x7 Internet access.

Jim Shaw, Senior Network Engineer at NxTV, began looking for a network appliance that would provide bandwidth visibility and network manageability for the 1,800 room mixed-use venue. He tested seven other products before ultimately selecting Cymphonix Network Composer. According to Shaw, The Signature's network was up and running with Network Composer within 15 minutes of implementation. With essentially no downtime, the product started working immediately and began to create specific policies that give critical traffic -- such as Web surfing, email and VPN connections -- priority.

During the January 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, (CES 2009), The Signature was at maximum capacity with many companies utilizing guest rooms for meetings and product demos, in addition to a nearly sold out expo taking place at the hotel's convention center. NxTV allowed organizations participating in CES to stream uninterrupted high-definition media, while giving another group permission to host a "World of Warcraft" party enabling 200+ attendees to compete against one another in the online game. All of these activities were taking place on the hotel network, in addition to normal guest usage.

"CES was a moment of truth for us," said Shaw. "Despite all of the bandwidth-intensive activities taking place on the network, the Internet interruptions and user complaints were zero. We had more calls come in related to light bulbs that needed replacement than issues related to the Internet. This all comes back to Cymphonix and we couldn't be happier with our technology choice."
