Sikich Investment Banking Announces Recent Transaction - Twomey Company Purchased by Consolidated Grain and Barge Enterprises

Sale of Private, Illinois-Based Grain Handling Company Represents Major Agriculture Market Transaction

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Nov 29, 2011) - Sikich Investment Banking ("Sikich"), headquartered in Chicago, has announced its most recent transaction: The sale of Twomey Company, one of the country's largest privately-held grain handling and storage companies, to Consolidated Grain and Barge Enterprises ("CGB") on November 21, 2011. Sikich served as the exclusive sell-side advisor to the Twomey family, sole owners of Twomey Company.

According to Christopher Geier, Partner-in-Charge of Sikich Investment Banking, the sale of the 66-year old Twomey Company to a global entity such as CGB represents a significant and positive transaction in the grain handling and agricultural industries, one that validates the opportunities that continue to be available within the sector.

"Over the years, the Twomey family has built a successful and well-regarded company within the agriculture supply chain, and established a strong reputation for Midwestern values and ethics," Geier said. "Our charter on behalf of the family was to capture and effectively convey to possible partners the value intrinsic in the company's physical assets, as well as in the reputation it has established over the years.

"As a Chicago and Midwest-centered investment bank, we are very pleased that a company such as CGB has recognized that value and is committed to incorporating Twomey Company into its family of companies," he went on to say.

Founded in 1945, Twomey Company has established itself as a major storage provider, with nine grain handling and storage locations with a capacity of more than 50 million bushels, including a barge loading facility on the Mississippi River. CGB, a grain handling and transportation enterprise, is one of the largest shippers of grain on the inland river system and has more than 70 grain facilities across the Midwest.

"It was important for us to find the right purchaser for our company, one that we believed would continue to offer our customers the same level of commitment and quality that we have over the past 60-plus years," said Craig Twomey, president of Twomey Company. "We're confident that we've found that with CGB.

"We credit the team at Sikich for its in-depth knowledge of both the agricultural industry and the current investment environment. That knowledge and Sikich's experience were invaluable throughout the process and instrumental to a successful transaction. Having said that, the Sikich team's ability to navigate and negotiate complex business and valuation issues is what ultimately made the difference."

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
