Silicon Chemical Corporation (SCC), Vancouver, Washington, USA Provides Process Technology for New Polysilicon Plant Under Development by SILFAB S.p.A., of Padua, Italy

VANCOUVER, WA--(Marketwire - September 10, 2008) - Silicon Chemical Corporation (SCC), a major supplier of silicon process technology to the polysilicon and solar industries, announced today their contract and cooperation with SILFAB S.p.A., of Padua, Italy in the development of a 5000 MTY state-of-the-art polysilicon manufacturing facility sited in Borgofranco d'Ivrea (Turin), Italy. SCC has already successfully completed and delivered their Process Technology Package and continues to actively support project engineering activities.

SCC is providing trichlorosilane production and purification technology and the integration of the various functional areas within the polysilicon plant to meet the highest standards set by SILFAB for product quality and process efficiency. The fully integrated facility will maximize raw material and energy efficiency while minimizing impact to the environment and to become a model in the industry for the goal of zero discharge and a more sustainable production model.

Mr. Phillips, SCC president and CEO, said, "With today's global challenges, it is not enough that we provide cost effective solutions for the manufacture of solar materials and a good return to investors, but doing so while fully respecting our environment. With SILFAB and SCC's commitment to these goals and the application of SCC's proprietary technology these challenges will be met. We are pleased to have been chosen by SILFAB as their technology partner. "

From Franco Traverso, SILFAB S.p.A.'s Chairman and CEO: "Our Engineers interviewed several companies promoting their technical expertise in trichlorosilane production technology, but found that they were at times not much more than a website rather than an actual technology company. However, Silicon Chemical Corporation was found not only to be experts in trichlorosilane and polysilicon production technology, but had all the necessary tools and the devoted and experienced staff in place to support SILFAB's cutting edge technology requirements and aggressive project schedule."

About SILFAB

SILFAB S.p.A. is a new company operating in the production in Italy of high-quality polysilicon for solar application, with the aim of becoming one of the major players in the international photovoltaic industry: 3000 MT/year ("phase 1"), 2000 MT/year ("phase 2") amounting to a total production capacity of 5000 MT/year by 2010. The SILFAB team is led by Franco Traverso, considered the pioneer of photovoltaics in Italy, already founder of a leading Italian-based solar cells manufacturer, with almost 30 years' experience in activities in the sector, in particular in the growth of silicon ingots, in cutting wafers and in the production of photovoltaic cells and modules. SILFAB's new polysilicon manufacturing plant will be constructed at Borgofranco d'Ivrea (Turin) -- Italy, on a 200,000 square meter site formerly occupied by a chemical multinational until 2006. The recovery of this industrial area has stirred up great expectations associated with the high environmental sustainability of SILFAB's production activities and with the excellent employment opportunities to be created. Initial polysilicon production from the plant is to commence in Q4 2009.
