Simba Technologies® Brings SQL to MongoDB

New Simba MongoDB ODBC Driver v1.7 Introduces New SQL Interface for MongoDB Data, Improved Server Communication, ODBC 3.8 Support

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - October 28, 2014) -  Today Simba Technologies Inc.®, the worldwide leader in Big Data connectivity, announced the availability of version 1.7 of its innovative MongoDB ODBC Driver, providing best-in-class connectivity for MongoDB data sources. The release features several ground-breaking advances, notably a breakthrough SQL interface for MongoDB, industry-first support for ODBC 3.8, and better performance.

"With this release, Simba Technologies takes MongoDB ODBC connectivity to a new level," says Simba Technologies CTO George Chow. "By design, the MongoDB database architecture employs a nested data schema. Now data scientists can reap the performance benefits of that storage approach, yet analyze their data via a familiar SQL relational data model. This means greater productivity, less retraining, and quicker time to actionable insight."

Simba's MongoDB ODBC Driver gives data analysts the power to connect MongoDB data sources to their BI tool of choice, whether that client application is Tableau, Excel, Lumira, QlikView, MicroStrategy, or any other analytics app. This v1.7 release introduces new key features:

  • SQL Interface for MongoDB Data: The new Simba MongoDB ODBC Driver renormalizes MongoDB data into a relational format, letting data analysts view native MongoDB data using a familiar SQL relational model. With the Simba MongoDB ODBC Driver, data analysts can see nested MongoDB data in virtual tables, now presented as modeled relational SQL data.
  • Improved Performance: The new Simba MongoDB ODBC Driver offers faster server communication, delivered via an improved API link and expanded pass-down functionality.
  • ODBC 3.8 Support: The new Simba MongoDB ODBC Driver is the first connector to provide native support for the latest ODBC 3.8 standard, enabling MongoDB data analysts to take advantage of ODBC 3.8's asynchronous communication capabilities.
  • MongoDB 2.6 Support: Simba MongoDB ODBC Driver users can now connect to the latest version 2.6 of MongoDB.

"Simba's MongoDB ODBC Driver is a valuable component of the Informatica Platform," says Awez Syed, Informatica Vice President of Product Management. "It allows our customers to extend Informatica's data integration capabilities to their MongoDB data sources."

"This new relational mapping model for MongoDB data disrupts the old way of doing things," notes Amyn Rajan, Simba Technologies CEO. "Simba's new MongoDB ODBC Driver offers a better data-modeling approach for the data-driven enterprise, making analytics easier and more accessible. With a SQL relational window into non-relational MongoDB data, analysts can digest, then analyze more data, faster."

Simba Technologies' MongoDB ODBC Driver is available for individual, enterprise, and OEM licensing. For more information about the Simba MongoDB ODBC Driver and other Simba Technologies connectivity solutions, and to sign up for a free trial, visit www.simba.com/connectors.
