Simplee Is First to Support Full Medicare Claims and Benefits

Millions of Medicare Patients Now Have a Free Centralized Place to Manage and Pay Medical Bills for Both Medicare and a Second Insurance Plan Together

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 1, 2012) - Simplee announced today full support for Medicare claims and benefits. Simplee's new offering will help millions of Americans eliminate the hassle, confusion and complexity of their Medicare claims. Medicare beneficiaries will receive simpler, smarter claims through Simplee that integrate their Medicare and second insurance plans. This will be the first time consumers can track all their Medicare related claims in a single, convenient place.

According to the US Census Bureau, more than $5 billion in Medicare benefits was distributed to nearly 48 million beneficiaries in 2010. Many of these Medicare recipients also carry additional insurance through a second retiree or employer-sponsored health plan. For these beneficiaries, healthcare claims are routed through two separate insurance companies for payment.

As a result, Medicare recipients have historically struggled to gain a clear or complete picture of their medical claims, bills and benefits. Patients forced to separately monitor claims across two distinct medical insurance websites and systems are often frustrated by incomplete information and worse, vulnerable to missed benefits lost in the confusion.

"While Medicare is a lifeline for many older Americans, it can be more complex and confusing than regular private insurance, especially for those who have coverage from more than one insurance plan," said Scott Farr, Vice President, Continuum of Care, El Camino Hospital. "Medicare patients experience billing problems largely because of Coordination of Benefits issues, or the complicated way in which these plans interact. Better tools to track and manage medical claims would help to mitigate this problem."

How It Works

Simplee makes it easy to manage and pay medical bills and claims online through a centralized dashboard that can track, review and then pay medical claims and bills from all insurance related providers. Beneficiaries with Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, and many employer or retiree plans will now be able to manage all their claims through Simplee. Simplee is also developing support for Medigap supplement and Part D plans.

In addition to plain language benefits and claims explanations, members also receive notifications from Simplee that highlight medical deductible usage, historical spend for open enrollment decisions, and alerts for medical billing errors.

"Simplee is dedicated to saving Americans time and money when managing their health care expenses," said Tomer Shoval, co-founder and CEO of Simplee. "Medicare operates in a completely different way than most private insurers and requires its own innovative solution for tracking and managing claims. Simplee's support for Medicare will significantly improve the Medicare experience for millions of Americans."
