Simucad Releases SPICE Benchmarks for HiSIM and PSP Models

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - September 5, 2007) - Simucad has released a comprehensive set of benchmarks for 90nm process technology by adapting a subset of test circuits originally from North Carolina University. The benchmark test circuits cover a wide range of sizes from a few transistors, to several million transistors. The larger circuits are supplied with and without parasitic back-annotated elements.

The 90nm technology used for the benchmarks is process data that has been created by simulating a typical 90nm process technology using Silvaco's TCAD software. Model parameters for BSIM3, BSIM4, HiSIM and PSP were extracted using UTMOST IV model optimization software.

"With this new benchmark suite it is now possible for the first time to do a true 'apples to apples' competitive performance evaluation between different SPICE models. End-users can finally make informed choices on the models to use within their designs," said Dr Ivan Pesic, President and CEO of Simucad. "The results clearly show that HiSIM outperforms PSP for any circuit size. Results also show that for circuits over one hundred thousand transistors PSP becomes an unfeasible option."

A full package containing benchmark results, test circuits, simulation software and documentation is available for download from Anyone wishing to verify the results themselves can obtain a free 30-day evaluation license to run the SmartSpice executables by contacting a local Simucad representative or by emailing
