NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jun 27, 2011) - A mere two months ago, Chinese internet firms were some of the strongest performers on Wall Street. A recent report from The Wall Street Journal argues that Chinese internet stocks are suffering from concerns about a slowdown in China's economy -- reflected in the fall of the country's benchmark stock index. Standard & Poor's said the performance in the past year of Chinese Internet companies with a market value of more than $100 million suggested the companies "might have been in a bubble that burst."

In recent months SINA Corporation has boosted expenses. SINA is expected to launch a service comparable to Twitter that will be available globally by the end of the year. SINA's Weibo micro-blog already has an advantage in China with Facebook, Twitter and YouTube all blocked by the government. The company says roughly 10 percent of its users are from outside of China, but hopes to significantly improve that figure by the end of the year.

Reports from Xinkuai newspaper revealed that Baidu and Sohu may be in talks to cooperate in the micro-blog business.
