Six Hundred Jobs At Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust Saved

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Sept. 6, 2007) - Unite, Britain's biggest union welcomes the announcement that 600 jobs at Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust have been saved.

The Strategic Health Authority have reached an agreement with Scarborough and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust to 'park' the historic Pounds Sterling 20 million debt. As a result, the proposals to cut the workforce by 600 have now been dropped.

Unite Regional Officer, Terry Cunliffe says,
"This is exactly what Unite have tirelessly lobbied for. We are extremely pleased that the Trust agrees with us and we can now concentrate on improving services, without the huge threat of job cuts hanging over the staff and the Trust."

"There are still problems which need to be addressed, particularly at Bridlington hospital but this announcement is a significant step in the right direction."
