Six Wines, Six Medals -- a Shining Start for the New Russian River Vineyards

FORESTVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - August 7, 2009) - The Cinderella Story at historic Russian River Vineyards shows no signs of abating. In its first official foray into wine competitions -- making its debut at the 2009 North of the Gate Wine Competition -- the winery earned medals for each of the six wines it entered, including Double Gold, Best of Class and Sweepstakes in the Blush Wines category for its Russian River Vineyards 2008 Rosé of Pinot Noir.

"We are ecstatic," said Chris O'Neill, managing partner. "It's proof that our hard work is paying off. Our overarching goal is to elevate the quality of the wines we produce and the fact that the judges saw fit to honor us in this manner is so rewarding."

In addition to the highly acclaimed Rosé of Pinot Noir, Russian River Vineyards also won silver medals for its 2008 "Left Edge Selection" Sauvignon Blanc, 2007 Chardonnay, 2007 Gewurztraminer, 2007 Pinot Noir and 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which will be featured at the Petaluma Wine, Jazz & Blues Festival from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, 175 Fairgrounds Drive in Petaluma.

O'Neill and his partners -- wife Barbara Sattler and Sonoma County's famous "Pasta King," Art Ibleto -- purchased Russian River Vineyards last fall. The trio has been working non-stop to transform the property into a destination winery, hosting events and opening Corks @ Russian River Vineyards, the only restaurant co-located with a working winery in the Russian River Valley. With the change in management, they also hired veteran winemaker Anthony Austin to oversee their winemaking program.

Russian River Vineyards is located at 5700 Gravenstein Highway (Highway 116) in Forestville. Its Tasting Room is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 707-887-3344 or go online to
