SK C&C Becomes 23rd Member of SmartTrust Certification Program

Korean SIM Card Vendor Joins Popular Effort, Supports Open Smart Card-Based Application Environment

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN--(Marketwire - October 6, 2009) - SmartTrust, a developer of Mobile Device Management (MDM) and SIM management software for mobile operators, today announced the continued expansion of its certification program. SK C&C becomes the 23rd SIM card vendor to take advantage of this program which ensures its products are fully interoperable with the SmartTrust OTA server and allows wireless operators to easily develop and rapidly deploy SIM-based value-added services to their subscribers.

Through SmartTrust's certification program, smart card vendors such as SK C&C can make certain that their implementations of SmartTrust WibTM, a smart card-based application environment, are compliant and supported by the SmartTrust Delivery Platform. Vendors must complete a battery of over 500 tests associated with SmartTrust Wib and GSM standards before a SIM card can achieve SmartTrust certified status. More than 1.6 billion SIM cards containing SmartTrust Wib have been manufactured and distributed.

"In an effort to furnish our service provider customers with the value and functionality associated with the SmartTrust Wib platform, we found it critical to take advantage of this powerful program," said Moon Woon Hong, General Manager, SK C&C. "Gaining certification of our SIM cards from SmartTrust provides peace of mind to our customers who are increasingly deploying advanced applications as more sophisticated and complex networks are launched."

SIM cards with the SmartTrust Wib installed not only execute operator commands sent to the SIM over the air but also allow operators to build and remotely maintain a portfolio of SIM-resident services designed around the SIM Toolkit (STK). The SmartTrust Wib specification has become the cornerstone of dynamic STK services including mobile banking, entertainment and subscriber self-care.

"With 120 varieties of SIM cards from nearly two dozen manufacturers certified under our ever-growing program, SK C&C demonstrates the importance it and other vendors place on the ability to offer SmartTrust Wib-enabled products to their customers," said Louise Grapne, Program Manager SIM Certification, SmartTrust. "We are excited to support an open platform that ultimately offers wireless operators the freedom to choose the SIM cards that best fit their needs in today's competitive market."

Both established as well as emerging service providers continue to look to SmartTrust to support their next-generation networks. Earlier this year, for instance, Globalive announced its intention to deploy SmartTrust Wib.
