Skanz Invites NY Tech Community to 'Wear the Web' at CE Week NY With QR-Coded Socialprints™

New Social Networking Platform Uses QR Codes to Facilitate the Instant and Easy Exchange of Shareable Information Among Attendees and Exhibitors; Unlock QR Codes Lightning-Fast With New Skanz App

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jun 22, 2011) - CE Week NY -- What if, with one flick of your wrist, you could share all of your business contact information and social media? Skanz, a new social networking platform, launched today with wearable QR codes that allow CE Week NY attendees -- and soon consumers nationwide -- to do just that. Attendees will wear silicone bands, or Skanz bands, featuring their QR-coded Socialprint. Using their smartphones, attendees and exhibitors can scan each other's Socialprint, facilitating the instant exchange of valuable contact information, including phone numbers, email addresses and social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter).

Skanz links the worlds of mobile technology, social media and fashion. Skanz bands mark the first time a social media platform has been translated into web-enabled fashion. By integrating Skanz bands into CE Week NY, the consumer electronics industry's annual midyear conference and new-technology showcase, Skanz opens up a truly social way to network and provides a platform for engagement both during and after the show.

"Why exchange business cards when your QR-coded Socialprint lets those you want to know about you get the full picture easily while racing to their next meeting?" said Tammy Lewis, CMO of Skanz and parent company QR Media Group. "With Skanz bands, attendees will get an instant connection to key information and an opportunity to network by sharing their business and personal contact details in a busy conference setting."

For attendees, exhibitors and media, the opportunity to integrate QR-coded Socialprints into their conference experience will be unprecedented. All registrants will be provided with their own secure, mobile website -- or "Skanzsite" -- with everything they choose to share conveniently stored in their own QR code. Skanz will preconfigure some of the Skanzsite pages with event content (e.g., schedule, exhibitors, conference contests), and attendees will have the opportunity to customize their individual Skanzsites and create their own Socialprints. Skanz will imprint their unique QR codes onto CE Week NY-branded Skanz bands and have them ready for pickup at show registration.

With Skanz, the fun lies in using your smartphone to "unlock the code" and gain access to your colleagues' Skanzsites. To unlock your Skanz QR-coded Socialprint and share your Skanzsite, all you need is a smartphone with a camera, Internet access and a QR reader app. Scan a QR code, and instantly that attendee's Skanzsite will appear on your phone. For those attendees who don't have a QR code reader, Skanz offers a lightning-fast, best-in-class QR code reader -- Skanz App -- available as a free download for anyone with an Android at the Android Market, and will soon be available for iPhone users at the iTunes store.

"While the growth in usage of QR codes by marketers and advertisers is increasing at a staggering rate, QR codes are not yet at the forefront of personal technology," said Bradley Lewis, CEO of Skanz and parent company QR Media Group. "CE Week NY gives us an exciting opportunity to offer New York's tech elite their Socialprint -- and their first experience with a wearable and useful QR-coded social networking platform. By allowing attendees to conveniently and instantly share all of their chosen business and personal information, Skanz puts the fun back in networking."

Throughout CE Week NY, Skanz also will give attendees a chance to "Skan and Win!" By scanning their QR codes at exhibitors' booths, attendees can earn points to win daily prizes (an iPad, Yankees tickets, Skanz QR-coded phone cases, etc.) based on the number of unique scans. Attendees will also be alerted to scan their own bands for special offers during specific times throughout the event.

For exhibitors, the opportunity to integrate Skanz into their marketing will extend their brand engagement to mobile devices and build a social network of everyone with whom they interact, for easy post-event follow-up.

"CE Week NY is our industry's midyear celebration of innovative technology," said Martin Porter, executive producer of CE Week and CEA Line Shows. "The launch of Skanz's QR-coded bands at our show is a great example of innovation in the works, offering our exhibitors and attendees a whole new way to network and extend their brands to mobile technology."

The CEA Line Shows, which had more than 1,400 attendees and 70 exhibitors in 2010, will again be home to the Digital Downtown Conference program, chaired by Natali Del Conte-Morris. It will take place June 22 and 23 at the CE Week headquarters, located at 7 W. 34th St.
