SLI Systems November E-Retail Index Highlights the Most Popular Search and Shopping Trends as Cyber Monday Approaches

Laptops, Netbooks, iPads, Engagement Rings, Snuggies, Leather Jackets and Boots Top the List of the Most Searched Items in November

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - November 18, 2010) -  The holiday shopping frenzy is upon us, and consumers are beginning to flock to the web in greater numbers to make their gift purchases. As e-tailers continue to stock their inventories to meet demand, particularly as Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach, SLI Systems (, provider of on-demand, intelligent search and navigation solutions and services for e-commerce sites, has released its November E-Retail Index, lending important insight into some of the most popular items on consumers' lists this year, based on the most commonly used site search terms.

The SLI Holiday E-Retail Index assesses the most popular site search terms and phrases from across more than 40 online retail sites across a range of categories, including Apparel, Jewelry, Consumer Electronics, Cosmetics and Gifts & Novelties.

"With Christmas less than eight weeks away, consumers are quickly increasing their shopping activity," said Shaun Ryan, CEO of SLI Systems. "Our proprietary site search data helps to identify what is top of mind for consumers, and what the hot ticket items are this season. One of the surprising findings in our data is that the iPad has recently re-emerged as a popular item, whereas just last month it was much further down on the list."

SLI Holiday Index Findings, November 2010

SLI's November Holiday E-Retail Index highlights the following retail shopping trends:

  • Women's and Men's Apparel

As in October, men and women are still interested in hoodies, cardigan sweaters and winter boots in preparation for the holiday season. Leather jackets also remained popular in the month of November. Gaining more prominence this month are leggings, Christmas scarves in all colors, men's ties in paisley and other patterns and slippers.

  • Jewelry

The most popular trends in jewelry this month continue to focus on more traditional items like diamond stud earrings in all shapes and sizes and sapphire rings. In November, engagement rings also topped the list, indicating there may be a number of wedding bells ringing post holidays this year. Men's watches also remained a popular item, with the top searches focused on designers like Rolex and Tag Heuer.

  • Cosmetics

Shoppers continue to search for chemical-free and skin purifying cosmetics items in November, such as sulfate-free shampoo. Nail polish and tan accelerators are new to the list of top searches this month as people prepare for holiday festivities. The top searched brands include OPI, Dermalogica, Bare Minerals, Clinique, Clarins, Ultraceuticals and Jane Iredale.

  • Consumer Electronics

Online searches in the area of consumer electronics highlight laptops, netbooks and all-in-one printers from brands including HP, and Sony. Digital cameras remained a popular item in November from top manufacturers Canon and Nikon. The iPad also made a comeback and seems to be a popular item -- either for gifts or personal purchases -- during the holidays.

  • Gifts and Novelties

Silly Bandz, which topped the list of searches in October, interestingly fell off the radar in November. Instead, novelty gifts like Snuggies, holiday kitchen items, such as tablecloths and goblets and slippers were the most popular.
