Small Business BC Announced Successful You Business Award Winners

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 11, 2010) - Small Business BC (SBBC) in association with title sponsor, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), are pleased to announce the winners of the Successful You Business Awards. The four finalists were honoured at the awards ceremony and business networking event on Thursday, June 10 at Birks' Flagship Store in Downtown Vancouver. Chris Emery and Larry Finnson, founders of Clodhoppers Candy provided the keynote address.

Contest judges, sponsors and SBBC congratulated entrants from across the province for their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. SBBC's Consulting CEO, George Hunter, noted, "This year more than 200 applications were received for all four award categories in areas as diverse as retail trade, non-profit, manufacturing, technology services, arts, entertainment and recreation. Our awards ceremony was held at the elegant Birks building once again and has become an annual event where entrepreneurs can network, promote their businesses and take that next step towards making their business dreams become a reality."

Certified General Accountants of BC "Business Concept Award": Presented to the top finalist who is in the beginning stages of starting a business, submitted a viable business plan and succeeded in presenting a quick and concise business pitch to the judging panel.

TELUS "Business Growth Award": Presented to the top finalist who is currently operating a business, submitted a viable business plan that is ready to explore opportunities for expansion and succeeded in presenting a quick and concise business pitch to the judging panel.

TD Canada Trust "Small Business Champion Award": Presented to the top nominee who best demonstrates a commitment to promoting small business in their community and/or B.C., including volunteering time and services to small business interests and groups, advocating the cause of small business in the legislative process.

WorkSafeBC "Company of the Year Award": Presented to the top nominee who best demonstrates outstanding leadership in the workplace and in the community; understands the value of their customer and their employees, while making a positive impact on the well-being of their employees and their community.
