Smart Home Innovator Roost(R) Announces Entry Into Smart Smoke Alarm Market With Family of Advanced Detectors

Makers of the Award-Winning Roost Smart Battery Expand Consumer Smart Safety Offerings With Two New Smart Smoke Alarms

SAN FRANCISCO, CA and LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - May 04, 2016) - Roost, an innovator in smart home technology, and creators of the Roost Smart Battery, today announced its entrance into the smart smoke alarm market with a suite of smoke, fire, carbon monoxide and natural gas alarms. With two Roost Smart Smoke Alarm products available for pre-order today at GetRoost.com, Roost is establishing its position as the leader in affordable smart smoke alarm solutions. The new lineup of Roost Smart Smoke Alarms is on display at USI's booth # 3615 at the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas, NV, May 4 - 6, 2016.

On the heels of the successful retail launch of the Roost Smart Battery, which offers an affordable retrofit solution for the 350-million 9-volt smoke alarms currently installed in the U.S., the company now brings to market a lineup of Roost Smart Smoke Alarms: the RSA-400 and RSA-200 models. The RSA-400 is a smoke, fire, CO and natural gas detector with a $79.99 MSRP. The RSA-200 is a smoke and fire detector with a $59.99 MSRP. Both the RSA-400 and RSA-200 are 120-volt hard-wired alarms with a Roost 9V Smart Battery back-up.

"The introduction of the Roost Smart Battery was a game-changer for IoT technology that enabled consumers to enter the smart home without spending a fortune on new devices," said Roel Peeters, Roost CEO and co-founder. "We are building on that success by expanding our product offerings to include a full-featured family of Roost Smart Alarms. The RSA-400 and RSA-200 will offer enhanced sensor technology, while providing affordable smart home safety solutions for new and replacement installations."

The new RSA-400 and RSA-200 address the frightening realities of fire damage and loss. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), in 2014 there were almost 500,000 home fires with more than 3,000 deaths in the U.S. alone. In more than 70% of the fires where deaths occurred, firefighters found missing or non-working batteries in the smoke alarms. With the Roost Smart Alarms, Roost manages and monitors the battery continuously for consumers 24/7.

The NFPA recommends replacing smoke alarms every 10 years, and now there is an affordable, smart home enhanced, option for consumers to do so. The new Roost Smart Smoke Alarms enable consumers to receive notifications on their smartphones whenever the alarm sounds, even if they are on-the-go and away from home. The RSA-400 and RSA-200 also eliminate annoying 3:00 a.m. low-battery alarm "chirps" and will notify consumers weeks in advance when they need to replace the Roost Smart Battery. The Roost Smart Battery has an estimated five-year battery life and features a snap-in replaceable battery pack that is available for $14.99.

To develop the Roost Smart Smoke Alarms, the company partnered with Universal Security Instruments, Inc. (USI), manufacturer of millions of smoke alarms over the past 45 years. Roost is also leveraging USI's unique patented Universal Sensing Technology® that has been proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of nuisance alarms and more effectively detect both slow smoldering and fast flaming fire types.

The RSA-400 and RSA-200 smart alarms are packaged with the Roost Smart Battery. Both alarms are available today for pre-order at GetRoost.com. The RSA-400 and RSA-200 have an estimated shipping date of June, 2016.
