Smart Home Innovator Roost(R) Announces Partnership and Integration With IFTTT for Its 9V Smart Battery

Unique Roost Smart Battery Will Now Connect to Other Smart Home Devices, Transforming It From a Point Solution to a Platform for Increasing the Safety and Security of Your Home

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Jan 4, 2016) - Roost, an innovator in smart home technology, today announced a partnership and integration with IFTTT, an Internet automating service that lets users create powerful connections with one simple statement: "If this then that." With the new Roost channel on IFTTT launching in mid January, the company will enable consumers to create IF Recipes (simple connections between products and apps that run automatically in the background) that connect its patented Roost Smart Battery to other connected smart home devices. This provides greater peace-of-mind and additional home safety and security for consumers and their loved ones.

The Roost Smart Battery addresses the frightening realities of fire damage and loss by helping improve the safety of your family and home in a simple, yet affordable way. Via its familiar 9V form factor, free mobile app and advanced Wi-Fi technology, the Roost Smart Battery enhances your existing smoke alarms through a simple retrofit. The Roost Smart Battery transforms existing smoke and CO alarms into smart alarms. Easy to install in less than five minutes, the Roost Smart Battery sends you notifications on your smartphone whenever your smoke alarm sounds. With five years of battery life, and advance warning, it also eliminates those annoying 3:00 a.m. low battery chirps!

Roost's new IFTTT integration will have many powerful real-world applications. For example, if the Roost Smart Battery sounds, then:

  • A user's mobile phone can call them with an alarm notification.
  • A user's mobile phone can send them (or others) a SMS or email message with an alarm notification, removing the need for a smartphone at that moment.
  • Philips Hue smart lighting can be turned on.
  • As new channels are added on IFTTT, Roost will also be able to integrate with other smart home devices upon a Roost alarm trigger:
    • Smart locks on a user's door can be opened to allow for an easy exit, or easy entry for the fire department.
    • A smart camera in a user's home can be activated so they can see what is going on from a smart phone or other remote device.

"After a successful launch of the Roost Smart Battery this fall, we are very pleased to offer a unique retrofit approach, that doesn't require consumers to spend hundreds of dollars on new gadgets, to an often fragmented smart home market," said Roel Peeters, Roost CEO and co-founder. "As we enter 2016, we are thrilled to offer IFTTT integration which will evolve the Roost Smart Battery from a 'point solution' for consumers, to a platform offering that connects and works with a growing ecosystem of smart home devices."

The Roost Smart battery is available for purchase on Amazon.com at HomeDepot.com and at GetRoost.com for $34.99 for a One-Pack and $64.99 for a Two-Pack. In addition, the Roost Smart Battery is available at select Home Depot retail store locations across the U.S.
