FREMONT, CA--(Marketwired - October 25, 2016) - The Z-Wave Alliance, an open consortium of leading global companies deploying Z-Wave, is announcing the latest winner of its IoT developer competition. Open Mind Innovations, creator of the Smart Lock System, has won the Z-Wave contest and will receive Z-Wave Alliance membership and access to the new Z-Wave IoT ready 500 series development kits.
The Smart Lock System is an electronic, wirelessly activated cabinet lock designed to protect the contents of cabinets, drawers and other storage areas during a violent motion event, such as an earthquake. A motion-activated sensor within the Control Box activates during strong movement or a seismographic event to keep contents of the storage areas secure. The lock is operated by a wireless signal and can be controlled from the control box via remote, security system or smartphone.
"By securing drawers and cabinets based on a certain level of motion, this smart lock serves a unique purpose in mitigating damage from potential disasters, and could benefit other industries beyond the smart home," said Mitchell Klein, executive director of the Z-Wave Alliance. "This submission represents the genius of Z-Wave: with over 1500 products in the market, you don't have to build something an entire ecosystem to succeed."
"Our research in the market has consistently shown that Z-Wave is one of the leading wireless technology protocols," said John Gerhardt, CEO of Open Mind Innovations. "It makes sense that connecting our smart cabinet lock to other Z-Wave devices that might be helpful in a disaster will provide peace of mind."
The Smart Lock System is an electronic wireless cabinet lock that can also be used in every day applications - whether keeping medicine and cleaning products out of the hands of small children or protecting private information, there are a myriad of applications. The lock is easy to install and features a backup catch plate to ensure the lock can still protect contents even if the door is slightly ajar upon activation.
