SMART Modular Technologies Announces New TouchScape(TM) Open Frame Displays

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - October 14, 2008) - SMART Modular Technologies (WWH), Inc. ("SMART" or the "Company") (NASDAQ: SMOD), a leading independent manufacturer of memory modules, solid-state drives, embedded computing subsystems, and TFT-LCD display products today announced its new TouchScape line of open frame displays, which take advantage of the latest TFT LCDs, touch screens, and display interfaces. The new, RoHS compliant TouchScape displays were specifically designed to provide SMART's customers with the high levels of image quality and robustness required by the kiosk, ATM, and digital signage markets.

This initial release of the TouchScape product line includes the "O" and "E" families of open frame displays. Both series include 15", 17", and 19" TFT LCDs featuring a 4:3 aspect ratio. Targeted at new designs, the "O" series includes standard monitors (without touch) or touchscreen monitors with resistive, capacitive, SAW, or IR touchscreen options. For more demanding environments, these displays are available with impact-resistant protective glass as well as dust and moisture-resistant IP65 options.

Available with SAW and capacitive touchscreen options, TouchScape LCDs in the "E" series can be dropped directly into existing designs that use open frame displays with a plastic bezel, such as the 1537L, 1739L, 1938L, and 1939L products from Elo TouchSystems Inc. Priced competitively with the Elo products, SMART's "E" series offers the advantage of enhanced resistance to fluid and dust intrusion, which is a key feature for improving the display's durability and longevity.

"The display subsystem is a critical aspect of our customer's products," stated Joe Kotas, SMART's Vice President of Business Development for Display and Embedded Products. "In the TouchScape series, SMART has combined outstanding image quality, reliability, and performance with a robust touchscreen interface that will stand up to the industrial demands of long-term, high-usage applications such as a kiosk, ATM, or signage deployments. Whether using the 'E' series in existing designs or the 'O' series for new applications, our customers will be able to select from a variety of display and touchscreen technologies and options to achieve the solution best suited for their needs."
