SMART Modular Technologies Introduces Performance-Boosting 2GB PC3200 RDIMMs for High-Performance Computing Applications

These Fine-Tuned, System-Calibrated Modules Allow AMD Opteron™ CPU-Based Eight-Socket Servers to Achieve Up to an 18% Performance Increase Over Other PC2700 2GB DIMMs

FREMONT, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 11, 2006 -- SMART Modular Technologies (NASDAQ: SMOD), a leading independent manufacturer of memory modules, embedded computing subsystems and TFT-LCD display products, today announced the launch of its performance-boosting 2GB PC3200 registered DIMMs (RDIMM) specifically optimized for AMD Opteron CPU-based high-performance computing (HPC) applications. SMART's 512Mx72 DDR1-400 module brings new performance levels to existing servers by creating a scalable performance upgrade path and extending the lifespan of field-deployed Opteron CPU-based eight-socket servers.

SMART's RDIMMs are specifically calibrated to allow 16GB per CPU running at 400MHz, which allows systems to sustain maximum performance in eight-socket configurations and is a key metric for PC3200 HPC applications. SMART has improved signal integrity in the new RDIMMs by selecting, testing, and matching specific registers, PLLs, and DRAMs. In addition, by taking advantage of clock skewing, fine-tuning the serial presence detect values, and performing extensive system testing, SMART has enabled its RDIMM to achieve up to an 18% performance increase over other PC2700 2GB DIMMs used in Appro's XtremeServer™.

The double-sided 184-pin RDIMMs are equipped with error correction code and comply with the JEDEC and RoHS standards. Due to its high-speed and high-signal integrity, the new SMART RDIMMs allow 16GB per CPU running at 400MHz, which is a key metric for PC3200 HPC applications.
