SMART Storage Systems to Present at IBM System x Technical University

Enterprise SSD Technology Leader to Discuss Alternatives to PCIe SSDs for Meeting Increased Raw Storage I/O Performance Requirements

NEWARK, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 12, 2012) -

WHAT: Richard Neff, business development manager, enterprise storage at SMART Storage Systems, will present a Technology Primer session entitled "IBM eXFlash: An Alternative to PCIe SSD in Servers" during next week's IBM System x Technical University. During his presentation, Neff will discuss the impact server virtualization, Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI), and high-performance databases have on raw storage I/O performance requirements, as well as the IBM eXFlash, with integrated SMART Storage Systems XceedIOPS 1.8" Serial ATA (SATA) enterprise-class solid-state drives (SSDs), as an alternative to PCI Express (PCIe) SSDs for meeting throughput demands.

Additionally, SMART Storage Systems will demonstrate the company's Optimus Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 6Gb/s SSD and discuss its Guardian Technology Platform at their booth #36. Leveraging the Guardian Technology Platform, a proprietary suite of enterprise features and Flash endurance enhancement technologies, the Optimus SSD product family meets enterprise storage endurance requirements through support for up to 50 full random drive writes per day with more cost effective consumer-grade multi-level cell (MLC) Flash. The Optimus product family also meets enterprise storage performance requirements, delivering up to 500MB/s sequential read/write speeds and up to 100,000/60,000 IOPS.

WHO: Richard Neff is the business development manager, enterprise storage at SMART Storage Systems. With more than seven years of experience in the solid state storage industry, Neff has gained valuable engineering and market expertise in the enterprise storage and SSD industries. Neff formerly worked for STEC as the director of engineering applications, and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from the University of California, Irvine.

WHERE/WHEN: The IBM System x Technical University will be held July 16-20, 2012 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. For more information about the conference, please visit http://www-304.ibm.com/jct03001c/services/learning/ites.wss?pageType=page&c=C207577H65797M69.
