SmartDisk Adds New Patent to Infringement Suit Against Archos

FORT MYERS, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 8, 2006 -- SmartDisk Corporation, a leading provider of portable, network and multimedia storage products and technologies, announced today that it has added Patent No. 6,987,927 to its patent infringement suit against Archos S.A. of France and Archos, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The suit already alleged infringement of U.S. Patent No. 6,658,202, entitled "Portable data transfer and mass storage device for removable memory modules," which was awarded to SmartDisk on December 3, 2003. On January 17, 2006 SmartDisk Corporation was granted the '927 patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This patent, titled "Enhanced digital data collector for removable memory modules," is a continuation in part of the '202 patent.

"By granting the continuation patent, the Patent Office has affirmed and extended the intellectual property protection of our FlashTrax and FlashTrax XT products in the digital multimedia storage market," said Michael S. Battaglia, President and Chief Executive Officer of SmartDisk. "The addition of the '927 patent to the suit against Archos further affirms SmartDisk's commitment to enforce our proprietary rights and to protect our position in the marketplace," stated Battaglia. "We are also exploring licensing arrangements with companies who have introduced similar products."
