SmartSports and Sportvision Form Partnership to Enhance Baseball Statistical Analysis

Tech Companies Join Forces to Revolutionize the Analysis of Player Performance Data for America's Pastime

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - Aug 25, 2011) - SmartSports, a leading technology firm based in Boston, and Sportvision, the leading innovator of digital sports content and broadcast enhancements, today announced a strategic partnership designed to revolutionize the analysis of player performance data at the amateur through collegiate level of baseball competition. This alliance combines SmartSports' patented technology system that provides quantitative metrics of athletic performance with Sportvision's successful baseball data capture applications, providing the ultimate in player performance analysis.

Sportvision's baseball product suite provides the most influential and talked about data in the market. In conjunction with Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM), Sportvision's PITCHf/x™ pitch tracking system, which is operational at every MLB stadium and 19 minor league stadiums, tracks every pitch thrown in MLB play at approximately 60 points from the time it leaves the pitcher's hand until it crosses home plate. Their ground-breaking technology records and reports pertinent aspects of the pitcher batter matchup, including speed, break, location, pitch type and trajectory, in real-time, and with incredible accuracy.

Sportvision continues to influence the way executives, analysts, scouts, physicists, fantasy players, etc., involved in all levels of baseball view and analyze the game, as the Company's innovative technologies (PITCHf/x™, HITf/x™, FIELDf/x™ and COMMANDf/x™) are designed to capture and deliver pitching, batting and fielding performance data never before available. SmartSports' new product SmartKage™ is a fully automated, patented technology system that yields 60 quantitative metrics of athletic performance for baseball and softball -- more than 8x the amount of information currently available -- the equivalent of a physical SAT®.

"The synergies between our two firms are obvious," said Corrine Vitolo, CEO and Co-Founder of SmartSports. "Our collective technologies are revolutionizing the analysis of baseball; by merging them, we are creating both an absolute data standard and scalable applications for our stakeholders. The PITCHf/x™ and HITf/X™ technologies will now be available for Little League through collegiate level athletes exclusively through our SmartKage™ facilities."

Vitolo said that SmartKage™ is slated for 160 locations across the nation with the first 10 locations opening in the fall in eight different states.

"SmartKage™ offers the first and only comprehensive performance analysis in pitching, hitting, fielding, catching, running and agility," added Larry Scannell, COO and Co-Founder of SmartSports. "It can be used for instruction, player development, recruiting and scouting. We're providing fully objective information for the market, and bringing it to the nation's best indoor sports facilities."

"From coaches and team executives to media, scouts and even fantasy team owners, there is great demand for Sportvision's advanced tracking systems and the detailed statistical data that we capture to evaluate player performance," said Ryan Zander, General Manager Baseball, Sportvision, Inc. "SmartKage developed a system that can effectively aggregate and analyze the player performance data, making it available at every level of competition."

"The PITCHf/x and HITf/x systems have revolutionized the way the game of baseball is analyzed at the MLB level. The SmartKage-Sportvision partnership will extend these analytical tools to virtually all levels of play," adds Dr. Alan M. Nathan, Professor Emeritus of Physics, University of Illinois and Chief Scientist, POB Consultants.

Sportvision will be holding its annual PITCHf/x Summit August 27 at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Along with their PITCHf/x™, HITf/x™, FIELDf/x™ and COMMANDf/x™ properties, SmartKage™ will also be on the agenda.
