SMASH Social Media Conference Debuts at USC, Connecting Top Social Media Experts for "Advanced Skills Huddle"

Speakers Include Serial Entrepreneur Jason Calacanis and Social Media Heads of Cisco, IBM, Levis, With Extensive Audience Interaction Emphasized

LOS ANGELES, LA--(Marketwire - February 17, 2011) - Communitelligence and SocialRadius have partnered to produce the SMASH Social Media conference. SMASH is an acronym for "Social Media Advanced Skills Huddle" and is an extension of Communitelligence's long-running social media conferences held across the country. This is the first time the conference organizer is partnering with SocialRadius, a full-service social media marketing firm, to co-produce the conference.

The one-day event will take place at the Davidson Conference Center on USC's Campus in Los Angeles on April 7, 2011. SMASH has announced its initial slate of speakers, including keynote Jason Calacanis, founder of Mahalo.com, This Week In Startups and Weblogs, Inc., one of the first commercial blog publishing companies, which he sold to AOL. Other top speakers include Adam Christensen, who is responsible for worldwide social media strategy and execution at IBM; Carlos Dominguez, senior vice president of Cisco; Gareth Hornberger, social media manager of Levis; and Wendy Cohen, director of digital campaigns and community for Participant Media, producers of "An Inconvenient Truth," "The Cove" and "Waiting for Superman."

On the agency/service provider side, speakers include Sally Falkow, co-developer of PRESSfeed and author, "Mastering Social Media Strategy"; Jason Kintzler, founder and CEO of the social PR platform PitchEngine; Tony Adam, director of online marketing at MySpace and founder of Visible Factors; and Eric Schwartzman, online communications consultant and podcasting pioneer.

Other speakers include thought leaders Mike Bonifer, writer, director, producer and author of "GameChangers"; Ernest Greene, director of the USC graduate program in human behavior; and Jonathan Taplin, director of Annenberg Innovation Lab. SocialRadius founder and CEO Michael Terpin will interview Jason Calacanis in a fireside chat format for the lunchtime keynote session.

Unlike many of today's conferences, the "huddle" offers a more practical alternative to the typical conference. SMASH will provide an intimate gathering for presenters and attendees to discuss issues, seek advice, and tap into each other's wisdom and walk away with a better understanding of how to successfully deploy social media for marketing, public relations and corporate communication.

"SMASH pushes the traditional conference into something much more interactive and practical. Our aim is to have everyone leave armed with the knowledge, inspiration -- and a social network -- that will become a supporting foundation for future challenges," said John Gerstner, President of Communitelligence.

SMASH focus areas and panels include Listening, Community Building, Mobile Social, Socializing with Jason Calacanis, Leadership, Metrics and Measurement, and Future Social. SMASH is ideal for anyone responsible for managing or deploying social media for marketing, sales, customer service and branding. Participating in the panels and engaging with the speakers and other attendees will benefit senior executives and managers from Fortune 1000, mid- and small-sized companies, directors and managers of social media and public relations, as well as faculty and students.
