SmithGroup Adds Jeffrey Cannon, Strengthens Its Cultural Practice

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - March 1, 2011) - Jeffrey Cannon has joined SmithGroup's Cultural practice in Washington, DC, bringing over 20 years of museum and cultural development experience. He has a special expertise in military history and archival facilities and has dedicated his entire professional life to all aspects of museum and cultural development. Cannon focuses specifically on cultural authenticity for the artifact, collection environment, and design.

SmithGroup's Cultural practice, led by David Greenbaum, FAIA, LEED AP, has become a major force in museum design for U.S. and international clients. The portfolio includes award-winning museum and visitor center design for such institutions as the International Spy Museum, Normandy American Cemetery Visitor Center, National Museum of the American Indian, National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Montgomery College Performing Arts Center.

Cannon's addition to SmithGroup greatly strengthens the firm's Cultural practice. His involvement with clients ranges from fundraising assistance and donor identification to feasibility studies, planning and design. For museums, visitor centers, memorials and culture centers, Cannon has led development, conceptual and architectural design, project management, visitor amenity, interpretive and master planning. Cannon's museum clients include private foundations, non-governmental organizations, and a multitude of U.S. military heritage foundations and agencies. He is also a very active member of both national and international museum organizations.

Cannon comes to SmithGroup from AECOM where he led the museums/cultural market segment. He holds a Masters Degree in Arts in Museum Studies and a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Nebraska.
