Snapwire Gets Social on Mobile with New Android App Release

Snapwire Releases Android App, Gets Social and Introduces Improved Request Creation Flow for Photo Buyers

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwired - January 21, 2015) - Snapwire, the platform that connects a new generation of photographers with brands and businesses worldwide, releases their long-awaited Android app which is now available worldwide in the Google Play Store and Amazon Appstore for devices running Android 4.0 and higher. The startup is also revealing new social features for photographers and improved Request creation flow for photo buyers with ability to launch different types of Requests.

Android app. "Today we are happy to introduce our new Snapwire Android app, the place to showcase and sell your best mobile photographs", said CEO Chad Newell. "To date, Snapwire has become a home for over 100k photographers all over the world, supplying over 1 million images to the platform. By opening the gates to roughly one billion active Android devices out there, we hope to change the way Android mobile photography is discovered and purchased, and to grow the startup even faster."

To take full advantage of the Android platform, the new app features:

  • Material design. From shapes, lights, and shadows to animations, transitions, and interactions - the app complies with all major material design principles and is ready for latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.
  • Adaptability to different screen sizes and orientations. With a plethora of different Android powered smartphones and tablets comes a variety of screen resolutions and sizes. Snapwire for Android is flexible to perfectly fit any screen size, and it's adaptive to tablets and landscape orientation.
  • Enhanced photo viewer. The original photo viewer has been rethought and updated to create a seamless and uncluttered photo viewing experience. Having the additional details moved to the elegant slide out panel allows users to stay more focused on a photo itself and to make photo discovery smooth and inspiring.

"Snapwire is hands down the most innovative and engaging photography application I have used to date. On a personal level I'm thrilled that I can now use the app across all of my devices but on a professional level I've been blown away by the attention to detail and creative ideas I've heard and seen from the Snapwire team. I'm excited to see what the future has in store for this development team, but also for the uniquely talented photographers who will now be discovered because of the Snapwire network," said Richard "RJ" Yost, Business Development Manager at

Social features. Along with releasing the new Android application, Snapwire is also revealing the new social features available in the latest web, iOS and Android versions of the app. Photographers can now show their appreciation by liking their favorite photos on Snapwire and get notified about liking activities in the new Social tab. This is the first step for Snapwire towards becoming a social platform for photographers. "There are thousands of creatives out there using Snapwire to share their talent with the world. We want to give them a place to sell their work, grow their reach and keep engaged with each other," said Newell.

New Request flow. Snapwire has also made significant changes on the buyer side of the platform. Apart from traditional Requests that are open to approved photographers, photo buyers will now be able to launch Challenges that allow to engage with the whole Snapwire community including photographers of the beginner level. Buyers also get better options to control the quality of submissions by specifying the required orientation, lighting, environment, space for copy, minimum size, location, etc. Moreover, the company announces private 1-to-1 Requests with top-level Pro photographers that will be available in the next few weeks.
