VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - May 12, 2014) - Summer is nearly here and, to celebrate the end of a long, hard winter, 7-Eleven is inviting Canadians to shed those winter blues along with their coats, boots, fleece, hats and gloves. In partnership with the Salvation Army Thrift Store, the convenience chain is encouraging its guests to give back and, at the same time, celebrate the unofficial start of summer with Slurpee. As a thank you, 7-Eleven is offering a free Slurpee to everyone who makes a donation. The clothing drive will take place on Wednesday, May 14 between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm at participating stores across the country.
100% of donations will go to the Salvation Army Thrift Store in 11 locations to help those in need. Items will either be sold to fund Salvation Army programs and services for families and individuals (e.g. daycare programs, summer camps, shelters for men and women, counseling and addiction services, work readiness and many more), or given away for free through the Salvation Army Family Services units providing vouchers that can be redeemed for needed clothing and household items.
"7-Eleven takes pride in contributing to every community we operate in," says Raj Kapoor, Vice President and General Manager, 7-Eleven Canada, Inc. "We're looking for ways in which we can make it convenient for our guests to give back and make a real difference in their communities."
"We are tremendously grateful for 7-Eleven Canada's support of our organization and for the steps they are taking to encourage the public to make a positive impact in their community," says David Court, National Director of Operations, The Salvation Army Thrift Store.
As an added twist to the charity drive, guests are being challenged to take fun selfies wearing all the layers they're able to donate. The Instagram contest will seek to find the most original and creative outfit and one lucky winner will receive a year's worth of Slurpee drinks. To enter, simply upload pics to Instagram including #solongwinter.
