So You Think You Can Dance Canada for the Official Opening of the Montreal Salsa Convention

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 15, 2009) - In addition to presenting the live theatre performance Tierra Nueva (New Land) at the Metropolis this Thursday April 16 for the opening of the 5th edition of the Montreal Salsa Convention, Les Productions San Tropez are pleased to announce the participation of a finalist from the TV show So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

On this eco-friendly evening, for which part of the proceeds will go to the environmental organization Sierra Club Canada, the first performance will be Tierra Nueva, a show presented by members of Salsa Team Canada. Each group will present choreography of its own creation, but this will be built around the central theme of the New Land. The whole production will be suffused with a theatrical atmosphere combining human relations, people's relationship to the earth and Latin dances.

Next, a special performance will be put on by Eddie "The Mambo King" Torres, directly from New York and another one by Francis Lafreniere, finalist in the first episode of the TV show So You Think You Can Dance Canada, together with his partner Claudia Primeau. They won first place in the 2008 Canadian Championships in the category 10-dance for professionals aged 19 and over.

The Montreal Salsa Convention is a presentation of Les Productions San Tropez, under the artistic direction of Sonia Kyriacou and Moris Alvarenga.

Sonia Kyriacou is the founder of Salsa Team Canada and coordinator of the troupe for the City of Montreal. With more than 15 years of experience in dance, including salsa, tap dancing and hip hop, she has become an expert in developing dance companies.
