Social Marketing Luminary Larry Weber Joins Crowd Factory Board of Directors

Founder of Weber Shandwick Brings Deep Social Media Expertise to Help Fuel Growth of Innovative Social Applications Company

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - May 18, 2010) -  Crowd Factory, the leading social marketing applications provider, today announced Larry Weber has joined the company's Board of Directors. Weber adds significant thought leadership in marketing and communications to the team of executive leaders. Weber is also a prolific author and public speaker, helping organizations move beyond buzzwords to tangible value.

"We are honored Larry has chosen to join our team," said Sanjay Dholakia, CEO of Crowd Factory. "He is a visionary who is in high demand as a result of his deep expertise and understanding of the sources of value for online marketers. These marketers are in need of real solutions, delivering real value from the social revolution. Larry's insights and guidance will be invaluable to us in our next phase of growth."

In 1987, Weber founded The Weber Group, which within a decade became the world's largest technology public relations firm. After selling that business to the Interpublic Group of Companies, Larry became chairman of Interpublic's Advanced Marketing Services Group, where he built and oversaw an $800 million group that included the world's top public relations, healthcare communications, branding, research, and entertainment and experiential marketing firms. Weber is currently the chairman of W2 Group, a global marketing services ecosystem that helps CMOs in their new role as builders of communities and content aggregators. As such, he brings unparalleled expertise and experience to Crowd Factory in understanding the needs of marketers and creating value for them in a dynamic environment.

"Marketers are desperate to translate activity across the social web into tangible ROI," said Weber. "Crowd Factory has a unique and disruptive approach that visibly drives customer acquisition and retention. I applaud them for their bold direction and am excited to join the team and help them capitalize on their tremendous opportunity."

Weber is the co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange (MITX), the largest Internet advocacy organization in the world. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Council on Competitiveness.

Weber's most recent book, "Sticks and Stones: How Digital Reputations are Earned Over Time… and Lost in a Click," was published by Wiley in 2009. His second book, "Marketing to the Social Web: How Digital Customer Communities Build Your Business," was published in 2007 by Wiley, with a second edition in 2009. Weber's first book, "The Provocateur: How a New Generation of Leaders Are Building Communities, Not Just Companies," was published by Random House/Crown Business in 2002.
