Social Media Breakfast Edmonton #5: 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2011 CBC Centre Stage

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - April 14, 2011) - The Edmonton Social Media Breakfast (SMBYEG) is pleased to announce internet marketer extraordinaire, Jennifer Banks as this month's guest speaker.

The topic for the April SMBYEG is:

What the heck? Why aren't you doing SEO?

Search engine optimization is probably the most effective, misunderstood, bad-mouthed, and ignored component of a high performing online presence- including blogs and social media. The idea is simple; create your content so that Google knows what you do and assists you with gaining visitors/followers and ultimately, making money from your website. Why is this so controversial? There are no secrets, and the basics are straightforward.

This session will cover:

  • What is Search Engine Optimization?
  • Why do I need SEO?
  • How do I integrate SEO into my blog/website/social media?
  • Live website audits (time permitting)

Stay after the discussion to network and share ideas within the realm of social media. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new-media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend.

More seats will be released on April 15th at 12:00 p.m. Seating is limited and fills up quickly so hurry to book your place on Eventbrite.com. (Registration will be taken at the event.)

About the Guest Speaker:

Jennifer Banks is a self proclaimed nerd although she does prefer the term- Geek Chic. Jennifer has led a team of 30 tech support agents and recruited people for jobs in the software development world. Once she immersed herself in the online space, she found a real passion and wanted to be in the industry, instead of sitting on the sidelines. Currently, she works at Top Draw and Epiar, consulting clients on how to best leverage internet marketing using SEO, SEM, CRO and ultimately, tuning your website to change visitors to leads. You can also find Jennifer writing about technology on www.techmommy.ca or on Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook.

SMBYEG houses an open environment to share today's best and worst examples of social media, as practiced by individuals, industries and organizations in Edmonton and around the world. Guest speakers share their experience and expertise of social media use, followed by an opportunity to network with a community of like-minded individuals.

The SMB was founded by Bryan Person in August 2007 as an event for social media newbies and experts to come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. The breakfast series began in Boston and has now spread to more than three dozen cities around the world. The Calgary and Edmonton chapters of the SMB were started by Scott Baird of McQ Design Strategies as a place for social media enthusiasts to discuss effective practices and new techniques.
