Social Media Breakfast Edmonton #6: 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 27th, 2011, CBC Centre Stage

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 20, 2011) - The Edmonton Social Media Breakfast (SMBYEG) is pleased to announce Rick Arter of Arter Mobilize as this month's guest speaker.

The topic for the May SMBYEG is:

Mobile Apps vs Mobile Web: What's the Difference and Why Do I Care?

This presentation explores the differences between mobile applications that are downloaded from an App Store (e.g. the Facebook iPhone App) and mobile web applications that are accessed through internet browsers on mobile devices (e.g. m.facebook.com).

A thorough comparison of mobile apps to mobile web is provided to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each. Finally, examples of what others are doing, particularly those in the social media space, are provided to give a feel for how the debate is playing out today in 'real-life situations.'

Stay after the discussion to network and share ideas within the realm of social media. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new-media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend.

Seating is limited and fills up quickly so hurry to book your place on Eventbrite.com. (Registration will be taken at the event.)

SMBYEG houses an open environment to share today's best and worst examples of social media, as practiced by individuals, industries and organizations in Edmonton and around the world. Guest speakers share their experience and expertise of social media use, followed by an opportunity to network with a community of like-minded individuals.

The SMB was founded by Bryan Person in August 2007 as an event for social media newbies and experts to come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. The breakfast series began in Boston and has now spread to more than three dozen cities around the world. The Calgary and Edmonton chapters of the SMB were started by Scott Baird of McQ Design Strategiesas a place for social media enthusiasts to discuss effective practices and new techniques.
