SocialShield Chosen by AOL to Power New SafeSocial Offering

Social Monitoring Platform Helps Give Parents a 360-Degree View Into Children's Online Activity and Identity

SAN BRUNO, CA--(Marketwire - September 8, 2010) -   Underscoring the growing need for comprehensive online tools that monitor social activity and reputation, AOL has selected SocialShield to power its new AOL SafeSocial offering, a service that lets parents monitor their kids' online activities. The patent-pending SocialShield technology provides parents with a 360-degree view of what kids are doing online. AOL chose to make the technology the foundation of their SafeSocial offering after an extensive partner search.

"AOL set out to create a new product that will quickly scan a wide range of online entities and databases," said Ned Brody, president, AOL Paid Services. "We looked at all available solutions when selecting a tech partner for this product and SocialShield was the clear winner."

AOL will market their product offering under the name, AOL Safe Social, and will maintain separate development, engineering and marketing teams.

SocialShield technology, with up-front consent from the child, looks at their semi-private and private data, including information about online activities and friends on primary social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Parents receive real-time alerts regarding potential predator relationships and indications of at-risk behaviors, such as posted references to alcohol use or even cyberbullying and suicide. SocialShield technology checks all friends against 50 databases and more than 100 data points to ensure they are who they say they are.

"There are many dangers, both short and long-term, involved with living an online life and social networking," said Noah Kindler, co-founder, SocialShield. "We are proud to support AOL's new service and to give parents yet another tool to help understand and mitigate these risks and safeguard their children's reputations."

SocialShield addresses the growing issue of teenage reputation management online by allowing parents to review postings, uploaded photos, and photos in which their child has been tagged for inappropriate behaviors and activities. Parents are immediately notified of unsafe or questionable behavior when trigger words related to topics such as sex, drugs, death or alcohol are detected in conversations posted online.

"We're committed to evolving alongside the social web and helping parents keep pace with the expanding universe of new websites, forums and other media that are available," said Arad Rostampour, co-founder, SocialShield. "We are also heavily focused on innovation, morphing our product to stay ahead of this rapidly changing technology."
