Socket Communications Launches 802.11b/g Modules and Development Kits

802.11b/g Module Features Enterprise Class Security and Fast Roaming

NEWARK, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 25, 2006 -- Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity products, today announced the availability of an 802.11b/g module and associated development kits to provide a world class WLAN hardware and software solution to its OEM customers. The 802.11b/g module supports multiple interfaces to provide added flexibility to OEM manufacturers requiring enterprise class WLAN solutions.

The newly implemented Socket fast roaming algorithm enables Wi-Fi based devices to seamlessly roam between access points in less than 200 milliseconds. This provides mobile users with the ability to have uninterrupted Voice over IP (VoIP) calls and a secure data connection while roaming in a closed WLAN environment. The fast roaming software is currently available free of charge to existing Socket CompactFlash (CF) and Secure Digital (SD) card users from the Socket support website.

"Secure Wi-Fi infrastructure in a closed environment is constantly gaining traction in corporate applications," said Peter Phillips, vice president of marketing at Socket Communications. "Socket is committed to providing a complete Wi-Fi solution that supports enterprise class features and enables the increased productivity of a mobile worker."

"Socket has been able to create a seamless wireless user experience for all of our customers," said Shail Talati, product manager for the Socket WLAN division. "The 802.11b/g module incorporates the technology from our CF and SD WLAN cards, allowing OEM manufacturers to develop their products on a best-of-class platform."
