Software Developers Can Now Add Commercial-Grade Barcode Scanning Capabilities to Android Applications

NEWARK, CA--(Marketwire - December 14, 2010) - Socket Mobile, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions, today announced the availability of its SocketScan 10 beta for the Google Android mobile technology platform. SocketScan 10 is a highly versatile barcode scanning software tool that enables developers to add commercial-grade rapid and robust barcode scanning capabilities to their smartphone, tablet, notebook and desktop applications. Compatible products for the beta Android release include all v3 models of the Socket Bluetooth® Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) Series 7 portable 2D and 1D barcode scanner.

"Android market share is expected to grow by more than 50 percent over the next four years, making it the world's second most popular mobile device OS according to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker," said Samantha Chu, data collection product manager at Socket Mobile. "SocketScan 10 makes it easy for Android developers to integrate commercial-grade barcode scanning into their applications by opening up compatibility to encompass Android OS 2.1 and above. We've also added some new features such as EZ Pair technology that assists with establishing a quick connection between the smartphone and scanner."
