SoftCity's Secret Santa Software Giveaway Enables Users to Donate "Dollars" to Charity

Holiday Campaign Already Raises $500,000+ in Virtual Currency for Three Worthy Organizations

MONTREAL--(Marketwire - December 15, 2010) - SoftCity is seeking to raise one million SoftDollars, a virtual currency, for charities this holiday season with its Secret Santa Software Giveaway. SoftCitizens have already donated more than $500,000 virtual SoftDollars to four charities including The Learning About Multimedia Project (LAMP), Youth for Technology Foundation, Urban Tech and Brazilian Alliance, since the campaign launch on December 1. Through the end of the month only, users have the opportunity to donate a portion of their earned SoftDollars to charity.

To add to the holiday giveaway, SoftCity will award an additional one million SoftDollars to be used for free software purchases to the charity that receives the most donations by December 31. These extra one million SoftDollars will be redeemable for free software that could improve infrastructure, provide education or even network protection to charities that need the help.

"What is also unique about this charity donation is users can donate 'virtual dollars' they've earned to a good cause without using cash. With the simple click of a button, anyone can quickly give to those in need and help these organizations enter the New Year with valuable software tools," said Marc-Antoine Ross, co-founder and COO of SoftCity. "We are very proud of the generosity we've witnessed among our users over the past two weeks, and we strongly encourage everyone to continue donating SoftDollars in the weeks to come."

Anyone can be a SoftCitizen and earn SoftDollars. SoftDollars are earned every time users participate in the SoftCity online community by asking questions, voting, writing a review, as well as posting articles and comments about software or hardware topics of interest to users. When logging in with Facebook Connect, users can quickly and easily sign up and immediately earn 2,500 SoftDollars. The SoftDollars can be used for software purchases in all categories including multimedia, business applications, utilities, mobile software titles, education, security, web development, and many other popular software categories.
