Software Architect and E-Learning Standards Expert Christopher Sawwa Joins Meridian Knowledge Solutions

CHANTILLY, VA--(Marketwire - January 7, 2010) - Christopher Sawwa, a 20-year veteran of the software industry, has joined Meridian Knowledge Solutions, LLC to lead e-learning content and delivery, a newly created position at the company. Mr. Sawwa's experience includes senior-level consulting roles with the U.S. Department of Defense as well as numerous years as a software architect developing learning management systems (LMS), which deliver, analyze and track learning via the Internet.

Mr. Sawwa's primary role at Meridian will be guiding the future development of the company's flagship software -- Meridian Global LMS -- as it relates to maintaining the company's leadership position vis-à-vis top e-learning standards, such as SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model).

"Meridian is recognized by pundits and customers alike as a leader in the adoption of industry standards; adding Chris to the Meridian team ensures we'll stay in that position for years to come," said Roy Haythorn, vice president of Meridian Operations.

With Sawwa's hiring, Meridian will have a software architect and standards guru able to discern and clarify many of the ambiguities found with e-learning standards such as SCORM. Sawwa's work will largely go on behind-the-scenes. The result for those using Meridian's LMS will be a system that, arguably, processes and accepts a wider array of content than any other LMS on the market today.

"As e-learning industry standards constantly evolve, my goal will be ensuring that Meridian's LMS makes content easily accessible by any user from anywhere in the world," said Sawwa. "To enable learners to tap in to content of any kind, we have to not only scrutinize the leading e-learning standards, but also lead the market in continuing to architect an LMS that delivers content in a way that takes little if any effort on the part of the system administrators."

"Chris, like few other people in the industry, has a clear vision for where he wants to take LMS technology," added Haythorn. "He's equal parts strategist and tactician, and he's capable of leading product managers, software architects, developers, analysts and tech writers."

Mr. Sawwa has also contributed to the development of e-learning standards through his association with the Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Lab (ADL), which, among other things, tests, evaluates and demonstrates the use of learning technologies.

"Chris has helped us advocate for the use of learning technologies and build the next generation of learning-delivery architecture," said Paul Jesukiewicz, director of the ADL Initiative. "His participation and ideas have repeatedly helped us in evaluating the industry's latest LMS technology."

Mr. Sawwa's professional memberships include LETSI, IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society. He holds a master's degree in computer science from Warsaw Polytechnics, Warsaw, Poland.
