Software Toolbox Introduces Factory Performance Monitoring Application for Apple Devices

CHARLOTTE, NC--(Marketwire - Dec 4, 2012) - Software Toolbox®, a leading supplier of industrial automation software, today announced the release of FactoryKPIs for iOS. The software is designed for viewing and monitoring factory performance and condition information on Apple iPad, iPad mini, iPhone and iPod touch devices. The application enables manufacturing decision-makers to share and respond to conditions and incidents in the office, on the plant floor or at any remote location in the world.

FactoryKPIs for iOS is a free app that can be downloaded from the iOS App Store. The application requires Internet access via Wi-Fi or mobile network and will automatically connect to a secure, simulated manufacturing data source, called KPIServer, for displaying data.

FactoryKPIs receives information from one or more KPIServers, which in turn, receives information from a manufacturer's existing historian or from a manufacturing intelligence, HMI, SCADA or other automation control system. The KPIServer connects to these data sources using the industry-standard OPC protocol, and is available from Software Toolbox at http://www.factorykpi.com/ or from a Software Toolbox distributor.

"FactoryKPIs for iOS is the newest addition to our manufacturing KPI software family, succeeding our first product, FactoryWidgets® for Windows," said John Weber, Software Toolbox president. "FactoryKPIs for iOS provide even more value and functionality than the Windows version, while meeting the strong demand for useful and affordable mobile manufacturing monitoring."

Upon notification, the iOS device delivers relevant manufacturing KPIs and metrics to the user, with updates occurring in near-real time. Also, specific metrics can be selected to launch the device browser for accessing site web pages for viewing reports, dashboards or other portal interfaces that are part of an existing automation system. KPI information on the device can also be shared via email.

"FactoryKPIs were developed to meet the needs of the mobile work style desired by today's manufacturing decision-makers," said John Nichols, managing director of APEX Software Development, the Boise, Idaho developer of the FactoryKPIs application. "FactoryKPIs allow factory managers to be more productive, responsive and agile, wherever they are, without having to be 'tethered' to a computer. Using standard Apple iOS features, FactoryKPIs can notify users of manufacturing process conditions that require attention, so they don't need to constantly keep their eyes on a computer screen."

The FactoryKPIs product is sold and supported through Software Toolbox and its channel partners. Suggested U.S. list price for the KPIServer is $495 for a five-metric starter pack. Additional metric packs are also available, with the price-per-metric decreasing as the number purchased increases. KPIServer is available for download or by shipment of physical CD media. Interested users may also opt for a 14-day, no-obligation free trial. For more information and ordering, users should visit the FactoryKPIs website.
