Solae to Discuss Dairy Replacement, Weight Management at IFT Supplier Solutions Sessions

ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwire - June 19, 2008) - Two Solae scientists will take part in two Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Supplier Solutions Sessions focusing on proteins and weight management in New Orleans on July 1.

Dr. Minhthy Nguyen, Solae director of application development and sensory science, will represent Solae on a panel about proteins -- soy, dairy and whey. Nguyen's presentation, "New Soy Protein Technology for Dairy Protein Replacement," will provide insight into the latest application and product technology enabling soy protein to replace increasing levels of dairy proteins for cost savings. The Protein session is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nguyen's presentation begins at noon.

"Solae has developed several exciting soy protein solutions that offer food manufacturers the opportunity to effectively replace higher-cost dairy proteins with soy proteins -- without sacrificing protein quality or nutrition," Nguyen said.

Dr. Elaine Krul, Solae science fellow, nutrition science, will take part in a panel on weight management. Her presentation, "The Role of Soy Protein in Weight Management," will highlight the latest research supporting soy protein's role in weight management, exploring data supporting its benefits relative to satiety, cardiovascular health and managing impaired gluco-regulatory function. The Weight Management session is 1:15-2:30 p.m. Krul's presentation begins at 1:30 p.m.

"Soy protein is unique among plant-based proteins in that it is a complete protein and is nutritionally equivalent to meat, dairy and eggs," Krul said. "Consuming protein while dieting is required to retain lean body mass and protein provides better post-meal satiation and induces increased calorie burning post-meal compared to carbohydrates and fat. Studies have indicated that soy protein provides these benefits as well as having additional advantages for those trying to lose weight, namely, lipid and blood pressure lowering effects."

In addition to the Supplier Solutions Sessions, Solae will have daily culinary demonstrations and new product concepts available for sampling at booth 3727. Several of the products address dairy replacement opportunities and the health and wellness benefits of satiety and retention of lean body mass. On Tuesday, Solae's John Brown, senior research scientist, will participate as a presenter in an IFT symposium, "Soy and Dairy Proteins: Opportunities to Maximize Margins, Taste and Nutrition through Blended Protein Systems."

The Supplier Solutions Sessions, taking place on the IFT trade show floor, give attendees the opportunity to learn more about various new products or applications within a given market segment.
