Soles4Souls Donates 40,000 Shoes to "Barefoot" Basketball Coach, Ron Hunter, and Samaritan's Feet

CHARLOTTE, NC and NASHVILLE, TN--(Marketwire - January 24, 2008) - Soles4Souls, a footwear charity based in Nashville, announced today that they are donating 40,000 pairs of shoes to fellow shoe charity Samaritan's Feet to answer the call from IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter, who is coaching a basketball game barefoot. Hunter is coaching without shoes to raise awareness and footwear for Samaritan's Feet, as well as honor Dr. Martin Luther King during the 40th anniversary of his death.

Samaritan's Feet Founder Emmanuel (Manny) Ohonme was delighted with the donation from Soles4Souls. "This is an awesome, generous donation," he said. "We are very appreciative about what Soles4Souls is doing to help us reach needy children in Africa and the rest of the world. We are particularly pleased with their efforts to come alongside us to raise footwear for children without a voice during the anniversary of Dr. King's death," he said.

Soles4Souls Founder Wayne Elsey said that his charity was thrilled to be able to donate to Samaritan's Feet. "They have been such an inspiration to us personally and professionally," he said. "We are excited that we can make this donation on behalf of our partners and donors in order to double their original goal of 40,000 pairs of shoes. We are proud that Manny and the rest of the team at Samaritan's Feet can reach out and make a big difference in the lives of needy children around the world, and Soles4Souls is honored to be a part of this effort," Elsey said.

Hunter, the head coach at IUPUI in Indianapolis, said he has already raised close to 40,000 pairs of shoes. Tonight, when he takes the court without any shoes, he will have doubled his original goal. "There are hundreds of millions of children who don't have shoes," Hunter said in a statement. "They suffer from diseases, infection and many other ailments because they don't have shoes to wear. Needless to say, they can't play sports without shoes," he said.
