Soles4Souls™ Inc. Pledges 40,000 Pairs of Shoes in Teenager's Name

18-Year-Old Lindsey Copeland Running 200 Miles for Needy People in Mexico, India

OPELIKA, AL and NASHVILLE, TN -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 12, 2007 -- Soles4Souls™ Inc., the international charity dedicated to providing free footwear to disadvantaged people around the world, is pledging 40,000 pairs of shoes to help Lindsey Copeland, an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Georgia, raise footwear for disadvantaged people in Mexico and India.

Pastor Rick Hagans of Harvest Evangelism Church in Opelika, Alabama, has been raising footwear for 25 years by walking across the state of Alabama and raising contributions. This time, one of his favorite parishioners is getting the better of him by running 200 miles from the University of Georgia to the University of Alabama.

"This young lady is absolutely incredible," said Hagans. "She's a real inspiration to everyone she meets and when she started this adventure on May 8, I don't think she expected a group like Soles4Souls to step in the way they did," he said.

"It's dynamic people like Lindsey Copeland who help us make a real difference in the world," said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls, Inc. "When we heard that she was running 200 miles -- about a marathon each day -- we knew we had to make a gesture to match her incredible commitment," Elsey said.

Lindsey Copeland was ecstatic upon hearing the news that Soles4Souls was donating 40,000 pairs toward her effort. "That's amazing -- 40,000 pairs is a ton of shoes!" she said. "I've been to mission trips in Mexico and I know there is a big need for shoes, and I've read about the poverty in India and I wanted to make a difference in some way," she said.

Some people have already met her on her journey and donated shoes to the effort, according to Lindsey. "A woman met me today and donated 72 pairs of flip-flops," said Copeland. "I'm just delighted that I am able to use a talent of mine to serve Jesus Christ and donate shoes to some of his children," she said.

A team from Soles4Souls will be on hand to deliver truckloads of shoes as Lindsey crosses the finish line at the University of Alabama on May 15th. "It's the least we can do," said Elsey. "We are delighted that people recognize the need and are finding creative ways to raise awareness for the problem. Lindsey is helping change the world one pair at a time," he said.
