Solio and Vodafone Expand Green Energy into Portugal

LONDON--(CCNMatthews - Sep 29, 2005) -

Vodafone Group, one of the world's largest mobile telecommunications companies, has once again chosen Solio, manufactured by Better Energy Systems, as its primary green-energy source for cell phones. Vodafone Portugal is the latest of the group's companies to partner with Better Energy Systems to offer its customers the solar-powered convenience and portability of Solio.

Solio is a highly portable, weatherproof device that can be used to charge mobile phones, iPods and other hand-held electronic products by tapping into the energy of the sun. Its fan-blade design allows it to achieve maximum solar area when in use, and to fold compactly when stored. To use the device, one simply needs to attach a cable and press a button.

Recognizing the benefits that Solio brings to its global customer base, Vodafone Group opted to increase the availability of the device by featuring it in Vodafone stores on a territory-by-territory basis, adding Portugal to its growing list.

Luisa Pestana, Vodafone Portugal's corporate communications and corporate social responsibility director, stated: "Solio represents an important addition to the independence and flexibility offered by mobile communications. The charger's mobility makes it an extremely practical accessory for those who travel frequently for business or pleasure. What's more, it features the added advantage of being an environmentally friendly product -- an important consideration for Vodafone."

"We are delighted that out partnership with Vodafone continues to expand," said Christopher Hornor, CEO of Better Energy Systems. "Now, the company's customers throughout Portugal can enjoy maximum freedom by using Solio and the renewable power of the sun to charge their phones and other hand-held electronics anytime, anywhere."

Vodafone is the second-largest operator in the Portuguese telecommunications market, with activity focused on voice and data mobile services. The company operates a nationwide GSM(1) cellular network, and pioneered UMTS(2) services in Portugal in the beginning of 2004. Vodafone Portugal also provides fixed services to complement its mobile offerings, and is particularly dedicated to the corporate segment. Vodafone is recognized as the most innovative and customer-oriented operator in the Portuguese mobile market and as one of the most superior international cellular operators.

Better Energy Systems (BES) is a leading producer of environmentally conscious products for the modern mobile consumer. Based in London and founded in early 2002, BES is an original design manufacturer that develops and believes in a better business ecosystem that will benefit both the consumer and the environment.
