Somerville Adopts KONYIN Multilingual Keyboard

City Deploys New LANCOR Technologies' Device to Create and Edit Documents in Multiple Languages; 311 Customer Service Center, Multi-Cultural Commission Among Early Users

NATICK, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 22, 2007 -- Lagos Analysis Corporation's (LANCOR) KONYIN pioneering Multilingual PC keyboard has become a standard tool in the City of Somerville's effort to reach out to its diverse population by producing documents in multiple languages. The KONYIN keyboard simplifies the use of non-English accents and punctuation by allowing users to choose among a wide range of character sets with a click of one of the keyboard's four special Shift keys.

Surveys of Somerville's public school students indicate more than 50 different languages spoken by city residents, with especially significant numbers (roughly one-third of the city's total population) speaking Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole as a first language. As part of a broader customer service and communications agenda, the city has been looking for ways to simplify production of documents in multiple languages, especially in the 311 customer service center and high-profile outreach agencies including the Multicultural and Human Rights Commissions.

"We were extremely pleased to discover that a cost-effective multi-language tool was available locally," said Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone. "It's compatible with the rest of our technology, it's simple to deploy and it helps us build on the competency of our many employees who have the background and training to work in multiple languages."

"For any organization that needs to communicate regularly in multiple languages, this solution is a no brainer," said LANCOR CEO Adé Oyegbola. "Our KONYIN Multilingual Keyboard with four shift keys allows users to type in many languages simultaneously. It's far more intuitive and less cumbersome than using keyboard layout switching software or the use of Alt + number codes that you find in regular word processing."

KONYIN qwerty+ keyboards allow users to type in multiple languages such as English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Creole, Hawaiian and many more Latin-alphabets-based languages at the same time, with no training required. The keyboard uses Unicode standard for handling fonts and is designed for Microsoft® Windows® 2000/XP/2003 or later.

"We're always looking for new ways to help our customer service reps communicate seamlessly in multiple languages, and we were happy to have the opportunity to become early adopters of this low-cost language enhancement," said Somerville Director of Constituent Services Sean Murphy.

KONYIN Multilingual Keyboards range in price from $27.99 for the basic models, to $44.99 for multimedia models and $78.99 for the wireless multimedia & mouse kit models. (
